This one looks like it could be interesting. Old school Tiger fans vs some of the younger guys.

I don't have this one to be very close... I got Gehringer for the win!!!

I am looking at the career ratio batting numbers( category of stats from baseball references)- Gehringer was better at every single ratio stat than Alomar was(HR%, BB%, SO%, etc). Not to mention Gehringer was better than the average player of his time in ALL the categories as well, Alomar was not at HR% and XBH%... And the kicker here is that Alomar's days the average HR% and XBH% were higher...

Gehringer also is significantly better at dWAR, better BEST seasons and better overall career...

Both players have almost identical number of games at 2B and plate appearances... so neither player gets the longevity advantage...

OPS+ 120+: Alomar - 6; Gehringer - 9
OPS+ 130+: Alomar - 6; Gehringer - 7
OPS+ 140+: Alomar - 3; Gehringer - 3
OPS+ 150+: Alomar - 1; Gehringer - 0 (149 in '34)

Very close, but a SLIGHT edge to Gehringer.

20+ SB with a 67% success rate seasons...

Alomar - 9, Gehringer - 0

Alomar wins this hands down, and it was actually a weapon for Alomar while it was simply not a part of Gehringers game.

Alomar and Gehringer both had good defensive reputations, so I will judge this as a draw.

WAR7

Alomar - 42.8; Gehringer - 50.5

This one is SOOO close, that It really comes down to SBs vs WAR7, and Gehringer wins that one handily, so I vote Gehringer.

As a Tiger fan, I was I was alive during the years Gehringer played. Would have been a fun guy to watch.
