Interesting one here with problaly the most racist player in baseball history, but also argubly the best player from the 1800s against the Brady Anderson of his ERA. In that Cash had the one tremendous season and never approached those numbers again outside of Homers.

Sure, Cash had the one massive season, but he still lived in the 130 OPS+ neighborhood his whole career.

Add to that that Anson retired in 1897, and I am going with my rule of ignoring the early guys. You simply cannot trust any of the numbers.

another pre 1900 players to judge on... Really is difficult... And Norm Cash is one of the most under-rated players...

I will go Norm Cash only because his best season was significantly better than any season Cap Anson had...

1961 was one of the best seasons ever by a first baseman...
