Placing Gibson, Paige and the greats from the "Segregated" Leagues is like ranking Sadaharu Oh, Shigeo Nagashima and Eiji Sawamura. Could they have played in the majors, probably. Would Oh have hit 868 home runs, no. Granted, you have to respect a guy who hit 30 homers at age 40, no matter the level. Take him out of those bandbox stadiums and he's not coming anywhere near 800.

Diluted talent goes two ways in this era. Both leagues had lesser competition because there were two leagues (well, technically more than two leagues but, in essence two separate channels of baseball). We cannot take the stats of ***** Leagues at face value while de evaluating MLB stats from the same time period.

I was just looking at the list of nominees here and noticed the likes of Bernie Williams, Paul O’Neill, CC Sabathia and Don Mattingly were included. Why? Is this some nod to random Yankees?
