my problem with Frank Robinson,

he might be the next best position player... i am still on the fence about that... but he never had the ONE special season...

he was best in the league a bunch of times.. but never stand out season...

he does have some fun facts about him... like he was the first player to ever win MVP for both the AL and the NL... and he also has the historical honour of being the first black Manager(thanks @calsnowskier for enlightening me)...

He did win a triple crown.

That qualifies as special don’t you think?

Valid complaints. But that is why he is still on the board at 27.

The problem was that he played in the dead era of the game. History has forgotten his entire era and he has gotten caught up in that.

I have always thought he was one of the more underrated superstars of the games history.

definitely should... but you look at each stat and each are just very low... you would have to tell people he achieved that, because looking at his stats you wouldnt think that he did...

Henry Aaron started his career 2 seasons earlier, and they both ended at the same time... history remembers the elite...

although i do agree with you that Robinson is forgotten, and he shouldnt be...

Except for average higher than Yaz the following year.

A triple crown is a triple crown. Doesn’t matter the numbers.

i agree... i am not taking anything away from the accomplishment...

all i am saying is that him having a triple crown is not as well known as others, and when you look at each of the three stats separately, you would never have guessed that he did it with those numbers...

a .316 Batting average, 122 RBIs, and 49 HRs...

only the HRs looks like a leader...

but i will say the fact he has a triple crown does move him up my personal list...

FWIW Frank Robinson is 19th on ESPN's all time list. I wouldn't say he is forgotten.

Playing side by side with Aaron may have a LOT to do with his invisibility. Aaron had a strong gravity well.

I feel the same way about Mike Schmidt but this group sees his value

Most of us saw Schmidt play. Hell, I was at his last game (except that damned all star game!!). Only a few saw Robinson okay, but I think that is a great minority at this point.

Yeah he had 8 home run titles (second only to Ruth) but only 2 of those were above 40 hrs. Just a low offense era
