There are three time periods where 5 or more players show up on this list so far:
1914-1928
1951-1960
1986-2007

The three players I'm voting for (Cy Young, Lefty Grove, Mike Trout) all fit outside of these time frames. Young only played against 4 on this list and most of that was toward the end of his career. Grove's first three years fits at the tail end of the first era but he was retired for 10 years before the second era. Trout's career started 4 years after the third era and only Pujols is the only player on this list that played at the same time.

I'm voting for them because of their careers, not where they fit within eras. Just thought I'd point out where they slot in case that plays a part in anyone's voting.

This data would look amazing in a bar chart with the x axis each year and the y axis the number of players playing that year. Would have 3 “humps” with the 1950s one slightly lower.

This is totally not me challenging you to do it though

Both of them are on the list. I spelled Seaver “O-t-h-e-r” and I spelled Verlander “O-t-h-e-r”

i understand what other means... but some players should not be other... Seaver is a top 10 pitcher of all time... thats not an other...

Verlander, fine... he can be an other now... but thats why i said, its time to include him...

there are the fun players you are listing that have no chance to win any time soon... at least verlander and Seaver have a chance to win relatively soon...

I think there are plenty of other pitchers that deserve discussion and locked spots ahead of Seaver. I can include him, but he is not in serious consideration at 22, so I am not losing any sleep over the fact he isn’t specifically listed here.

I might need a little tech support. How do I give all three votes to Griffey?
It is possible, but it is a but if a complicated process…

1) go to account settings for the site
2) click “delete account”

That will give you the ability to vote multiple times for the same player.

i didnt say they were going to be voted on now... who cares aboot this vote for those 2... all i said, is it is time to include them... isnt that what other is meant for??? so you can include them in future rounds...

I was just surprised you took off Seaver, as he is much better than being on your rotation of who to include... he should be a mainstay.. but yes, he is not going to be picked here...

I will say, he is my next pitcher after Lefty... and would have voted for him over Maddux as well...

I think Young and Mathewson, at least, are ahead of Seaver. Maybe Gibson and Alexander and Paige (who, imho, should have been in consideration for #1 pitcher, but we just don’t have visibility to his numbers, unfortunately).

I have 8 pitchers on the list of 34 (+ other). The only “locks” are players who received noms in the previous round. Every other spot is essentially in the “rotation”. Seaver is a mainstay in the “rotation”, but he doesn’t get a spot every time unless he gets noms.

rounds where there is a clear hitter and a clear pitcher being the top 2 choices is pretty boring... as comparing a hitter to pitcher is almost always going to be subjective...

cant wait until both Foxx and Lefty are gone... so we can actually start debating again....
