what criteria are you using?

At a quick glance I would say first base is off and I would have Kipnis as the third best second baseman. but I would be using the "eye" gauge.

Going from 5th to 3rd is splitting hairs really, I wouldn't be surprised if he was the third best at all. Not much of a criteria, it's not like I have a formula or anything. Just based on past performance, trends, overall value, etc.

What would you change for first basemen?

Goldy over Votto. I think Gonzalez has fallen off the past few years. I haven't seen Abreu play yet, so I don't know anything about him. Chris Davis finally reached his potential last year, so I would push him up to fourth.

1 Cabrera
2 Goldschmidt
3 Votto
4 Davis
5 Freeman
6 Gonzalez
7 Rizzo
8 Pujols
9 Belt
10 Teixeira. homer pick hoping he bounces back.

Gonzalez hasn't been the same ever since the shoulder injury. The power numbers have fallen off to league average. He's still a damn good player though. But I'm not sure he's better than Napoli at this point. Napoli's defense at 1B has been a huge surprise.

1B seems pretty deep. I could see Tex bouncing back.

I am not too high on Abreu myself. I want to see something in Chicago before ranking him. Same goes for Bogaerts (spelling?) in Boston at SS.

Hosmer and Mauer could probably be on this list too for fist base. 1B is awfully deep lately.

Maurer as a catcher was top 3 even with his drop off the past few years, but I don't think he is top 10 at first.

Hosmer was a just miss, but dropped another spot in my mind once I was reminded about Napoli.

Mauer is a top 20 hitter( see his Wrc+) in the league; he should have a good shot at being in the top 10 unless he is epically bad with the glove at 1st. Hosmer is always interesting as the metrics defensively don't match at all with the scouts and general media. First base is pretty darn deep though. Can't really fault the {Op's} list for much outside of my own preference to see that bat before even thinking about a ranking (Abreu).

Goldschmidt was better last year and I wouldn't be surprised if he was better than Votto this year as well, but I'm not ready to predict that just yet. Votto has a track record while Goldschmidt only has one other full season outside of last year.

Abreu may be a stretch, but the guy has been a beast in Cuba and I look forward to watching him.

Davis over Gonzalez I can see. Davis has been better the last two years. Gonzalez played better last season and I value the fact that he plays 155 games a year each of the last 8 seasons. I think both are top 5, and I give Gonzalez the edge because he's clearly better defensively.

So the only guy you took off was Abreu and replaced him with Teixeira. You're asking a lot from Teixeira and I would be very surprised if Abreu isn't a lot better this year.

Completely forgot Mauer plays 1B now too. Yeah, he should absolutely be up there too.

i should have taken Belt off and put Napoli up to fifth, bumping everyone else back one. Tex as I said is a homer and hope pick. Abreu should be better, but without ever seeing him I can't rate him.

Asdrubal Cabrera had a tough year last year, but no top 10 at SS?

Mauer will probably hit better without catcher wearing him down.

He shits on Brandon freaking Belt that's forsure.

I have him just on the outside looking in, although I think his 2014 will be closer to his 2012 than his 2013.

It was pretty brutal though. Would open the door for guys like Jose Iglesias and Alcides Escobar for the top 10 then if Asdrubal was considered for this list. (yuck)

Yeah he could turn it around in 2014, but 2013 was brutal.
