They still have a long ways to go. As of today, I'd say they are behind the same point last year in spring practices with more question marks that need to be answered. Long continues to look damn good, Choi is solid, Moore has the potential, Sirles is the same, A-Rod still hasn't figured out the max effort every snap and Pensick is the weakest of them all. I'm not sure about the others, outside of Long, nobody has stood out.

- It seems like Ben Cotton has improved not only his speed but his first step, he's quicker off the ball.
- Aaron Green looks A LOT better and in the eyes of a couple people, he has passed Abdullah (their opinion, not the coaches). He's running inside the tackles as well, not bouncing like he did last season.
- Jason Ankrah is performing at a high level.
- E-Mart tore it up in a scrimmage, not sure which one but I guess he completely dominated.
- All scholarship safeties look "damn good".
- Marrow has a work ethic that is very contagious, it's at the level of Burkhead.

One of my buddies has attended all but 3 practices and he says Taylor has improved his footwork from receiving the snap & moving up in the pocket but he's still less than desirable making reads and throwing the ball. He thinks Taylor will "never get it corrected" but seems to be working his ass off to improve as much as possible. As for the "never get it corrected", as we all know, his 'issue' is 5 or so years of doing it wrong and that is nothing easy to change. He also believes Taylor has had a change of attitude and is more open to criticism which has been a positive to see from an outside perspective.

Defensively, as a unit, they believe the back 4 is playing more as a unit with minimal breakdowns. If I understood them correctly, we have some damn good battles going on back there. Each person believes this Blackshirt unit, pending the health of the DT's going into the season, will be better and perform at a higher level than the 2011 defense did. (cavalot, I thought of you when I was told this). We're getting closer to "flying to the ball" as a unit, they had some excitement in their voices when they stated that.

Mixed review from multiple people at practices. I don't believe anything is earth shattering, some has already been stated but I'm just sharing what I was told by more than one person.

Enjoy and keep it clean.

Good report. Here is what I would add.
I've heard and seen differently regarding Pensick but I also would not count out Jackson. I've heard and seen that Moore is on the verge of becoming dominant. Wish Sirles could increase his strength and that A-Rod would turn up his motor.
Aaron is now where they expect him to be.
Marrow is now my choice for new comer of the year on offense.
E-Mart needs to become more consistant in his play. Sometimes he is the incredible Hulk and sometimes he's just lost. More reps and better understanding of the defense should address that.
Stafford is on another level above all the rest of the safeties.
Seisay is going to be the real deal plus.
The starting LBers right now are a damned good group.
The DEs are much harder to handle than they were last season.
The holder for Maher remains a concern.
If I remember anything else, I'll post later.

Fair comments for the most part I would say... IMO...

"They still have a long ways to go!" <-- Fact!
"Max effort every snap!" <-- Everyone needs to not just "A-Rod"
E.Mart (Day to Day) can be an animal but needs to bring it every play... every game!
"Will be better and perform at a higher level than the 2011 defense did" Holy shit... if we are not better... we are going backwards... we have a long ways to go to get back to the days where we imposed our will

Don't know about Taylor Martinez's foot work, but that was a nice end over end pass he threw there... :L
