so i posted this in the MMA thread, someone pointed out, i think it was champy, that Sonnen said yesterday that he weighed 205, and had 27 hours (from the time he said it) to cut 20 pounds....

he's a wrestler, and working with a guy who has helped people drob 25+lbs in 24 hours, so i'm sure he will be able to....BUT...

anyone know for sure what happens if he doesnt make weight? i've been looking around and a few things i've seen have said if it is a title fight, the belt is no longer on the line, but they still fight...others have said the title fights simply dont take place if a fighter cant make weight...still others have said that if Sonnen doesnt make weight, its then Silva's choice if they fight (but it wont be for the title) anyone know?

I remember one other instance of this happening in the UFC, I think it was in one of Matt Hughes's last fights. If you don't make weight from what I remember you just forfeit, that's it. However Hughes choose to ignore that and fight (and lose)anyway. IDK what would happen in a title fight.

If Sonnen does not make weight, they will still fight but it will not be for the title and Sonnen will have to give up half of his fight purse to Silva... Edit: Actually Silva has the option to opt out of the fight, but i'm pretty sure that he won't do that.

yeah i read about giving up some of the purse too

and yeah i think it's a pretty safe bet that if Sonnen doesnt cut enough, Silva will still be rumbling.

hopefully he just makes weight and we dont have to worry about any of this

He should be alright, my roommate is a pro fighter, and he is usually 15-20 lbs over weight a few days heading into weigh in's.

thats still nuts to be able to drop taht in a few days...but this is 20 pounds in 27 hours (still i think he will make it) but damn that has got to be terrible for you

Sonnen's weight is fine, he was 190 lbs. at 1:40 this afternoon.

They both made weight, Silva hit Sonnen in the face with his shoulder during the stare down. Sonnen said, "this fight is between the Fake Guy (Silva) and the Real Guy (Sonnen)" lol

he should probably be pissed off that you exposed his business to potential infringement lawsuits lol

can you add 10 lbs on after weigh ins? Who is to say come fight time you weight over the limit?

Sauna suits, high intensity workouts, and saunas...a lot of it is just water weight so they wait till a few days before weigh in, so they don't lose any strength or endurance.
