Hey guys, creating this thread as a place to just blow off steam, say what is on your non-sports mind (is that even a real thing?), or just cut loose and let us know what's going on with you. You don't have to keep all non-Ranger stuff in here, just a place in case you can't find where else to post.

Well, we just 4 days of -50f temperatures...who can I complain to about that?

I remember thinking, I don't EVER remember it being this cold, so I looked it up.
It hasn't been in my lifetime.
Brutal.
even if you layer most clothes, (most regular outerwear gear) are not made for those temperatures.
It was colder than Alaska, Antartica (that's true)

We had some sufficient clothing, but had to double glove. Bottom line, you had about 9 minutes of exposure if you every inch of skin wasn't covered, or double covered. Hands would start to sting in about 5 minutes even with "good" gloves on. (needed special gloves for those kind of temps)
I could go a lifetime without that kind of cold again, cold isn't even a accurate description.

and unrelated, we had a very strange virus circulate through the family...Doctors saying it was flu-like, but everyone has had flu shots.
BRUTAL, unless you don't mind breathing abnormally, or watching and worrying about others

It's over, everyone on the mend....we couldn't work, and I'm still off, but feeling much better

you know you're sick when being on the internet is exhausting
I'll need a nap after this post. ;)

on a the bright side, pitchers and catchers.......tick tock

Flew into DAL from LIT and back today for business downtown. Have driven back and forth a number of times the past year and half ... but first time i have been into the new Love Field terminal. Holy Crap!

I walked up the jetway this morning at 7:20 and thought by mistake that I flew to the wrong city! Say what you like about how things happen in Dallas or Dallas County ... but the new Love Field terminal is fantastic!

Just saying ...

DFW car rental was a cluster, we almost missed a flight and we NEVER come close to missing flights.
Airport was fine. In fairness, car rental can be a cluster no matter where you are...but jayzuz, we were given 3 wrong instructions from their own employees.

Acually one family member did stay back and wait for the next flight with the luggage so the rest wouldn't miss boarding. The only reason we didn't all miss...
Fun trip, but that was not.

Sorry about your trip ended in a hassle at DFW w/rental car turn in. My experience today was at the other airport ... Love Field (DAL).

Next time you visit the metroplex suggest fly SWA from MDY to DAL. Not as convenient if you are headed for the mid-cities ... but the rental car locations are all within a few minutes of the terminal unlike DFW.

We looked at Love Field, but DFW offered non-stop flights (pretty cheap), that's hard to beat. (I'm usually the biggest whiner, I admittedly hate connections) then again, an hour and 10 minutes trying to return a car was a bit mind numbing. :)
I'm still not clear on what happened, just that we were told to go to the wrong place twice, and then to the wrong place to wait for the shuttle...lololol (we figured that one out quickly)
Once again, not complaining about Dallas, car rental is frequently a pain. The rest of the trip was great

Best place in the world...Palm Springs, get off the plane and about a 5 minute walk to your car.

thanks for the info though! ...may come in handy

I have a lot of nerve complaining about car rental at DFW. Let me explain.
We (and by 'we', that means me) are puppy-watching 'Micky Mantle Musial', parents are out of town.

She is still very young, but does not sleep in her pen because she doesn't leave your side...if you get up to go to the bathroom, she's trots with. (at night, daytime she's your typical puppy who is determined to get into everything)

So, she wakes me up with a horrible high pitched yelping, I was immediately startled and panicked...we just lost a dog, so I'm a little jumpy.
at the end of the bed, on a chest...some lazy woman *clears throat* did not put a basket of clean clothes away. She crawled into it, probably to lay on the clothes I guess, and gets her head stuck...
in the CROTCH of my guy's pajama bottoms, completely freaked her out. (hopefully you're lauging right here)...the CROTCH, her little head sticking out.

I didn't have time to laugh because she was thrashing like crazy and I was worried she was going to hurt herself. But my fella immediately wakes up, looks at me trying to pull off the pants off her head, is laughing hysterically, grabs her, takes a picture, then he just rips the pants, frees her...and right back to sleep he goes. I hate him.

I mean seriously...I think I probably could have managed to rip some cotton pants. *SMH*

anyway, now she's all wound up, good time to take her outside. EXCEPT that it's 40 below again and is going to be for a probably a week. This is absolutely crazy...and it will drive you a little crazy, not use it, not these extended periods.
Anyway, I bundle up, put her little (sorry about this, she's my dads) St louis Cardinals coat on, and take her out. Well, you can feel your nose going numb in about 4 minutes, and what does she want to do?
PLAY. Then throws a little tantrum when I pull her back inside, tries to shake at the leash, whatever little pup, I just pick her up, the end. That's what happens when you weigh 6 lbs. There is no debate.

I get back inside and am so sick of this cold, and also couldn't fall back asleep, which makes me more frustrated...I'm seriously thinking, "We're not living here anymore"...then I thought about complaining about the car rental at DFW...

and how grateful I would be to be sitting there again where it was at the very least 55 degrees.
Then I turn on Morning Joe, because what else is there to do, and they name the third most popular city currently where people are moving.
DALLAS.
The problem is, I can't get the family to move with me. 2 more weeks of this, and to hell with them. (I'm kidding of course....unfortunately, because if this is the new winter...)
See how I pulled all that together? No?
I know, who cares but I'm exhausted and cold...and the puppy thinks it's play time, so she's harrassing my old dog, and now.... I might as well take her out, because she's not getting any sleep with this pup all wound up, so back outside I'm going.

Who is still sound asleep? Mr crotch-ripper, did I mention that I hate him?

Uptown problems, admittedly.

DAL defensive coach revolving door is nothing like what has been experienced at Arkansas State 2011 – 2014 … with four head coaches in four years.

2011: First year head coach Hugh Freeze. Ark State undefeated in the Sun Belt conference, a perfect 8-0 record, as well as going 10-2 overall. After the last regular season game, Freeze took the head coaching job at Ole Miss, taking four assistants with him.

2012: [/B]Gus Malzahn came to the Red Wolves from Auburn, where he had served the previous two seasons as offensive coordinator. In 2012, Arkansas State lost only one game in the Sun Belt Conference. For the first time in school history, they had back to back 10 win seasons (10-3 in 2012) and back to back Sun Belt conference championships. On December 4, 2012, Malzahn announced his return to Auburn as head coach.

2013: Former Texas Longhorns football offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin was named on December 11, 2012 to succeed the departing Malzahn. In 2013, Arkansas State under Bryan Harsin won the Sun Belt Conference, and received a bid to the GoDaddy Bowl for the 3rd time in as many years with a 7-5 (5-2 conference) regular season record. They were deemed co-champions this year with the UL-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns who were also 5-2 in conference. Before the GoDaddy Bowl, Harsin joined his predecessors in announcing his departure after one season to coach at his alma mater, Boise State.

2014: On December 19, 2013, Arkansas State University hired Blake Anderson as the new head coach away from his offensive coordinator post at the University of North Carolina.[9] In an attempt to end the "One and Done" era and provide much-needed coaching stability, Arkansas State placed a hefty buyout provision in Anderson's $700,000 per year five year contract specifying a $3 million buyout for the first two years, $2 million for the third and fourth years, and $1 million in the final year.

Man... those are hefty buyouts ... higher than his annual salary! Maybe that stops the revolving door in Jonesboro. All that text above from Wikipedia.

SMU Basketball is the new hot thing if you believe Espn Radio. They are #23 now, if they make it to the tournament,I'll probably give them a look.

I would have loved to have been at the game against 7th ranked Cincinnati. What Larry Brown has done with that team is amazing. The guy is a great coach he just does not stay in one place very long. Saw him when he was the coach of the Nuggets in the ABA and I would go to every Spurs game for a buck. Now those were some fun games. Dr J (Nets) vs Iceman Gervin.

Since I went to SMU, I watch almost every game of theirs. I'm usually pretty pessimistic about their sports teams (due to years of heartbreak and gut-wrenching losses). But this year's basketball team is scary good. They didn't just beat Cincinatti, they embarrassed them. That was the #7 team in the country with a record of 22-2, and they didn't even belong on the same court as SMU. They've beaten UConn, Memphis, and Cincy (all top 25) by a combined 45 points. They have the #3 defense in the country and they run 8-9 players deep. Plus they check off almost every single required quality of a successful tournament team: experienced coach, tenacious D, upperclassman PG leader, solid FT shooting, more reliance on dominant front court scoring and less on 3 pt scoring, solid rebounding...

They won't win the National Championship or anything crazy like that, but they will be a nightmare matchup for whichever team draws them in round 1. I could easily see them making it to the second round or possibly Sweet Sixteen depending on their draw.

I hope they make it to March Madness. Just keep winning! Every team in the top 25 gets an invite.

Commish' posting the line from Taxi Driver reminded me of one of my favorites ... the last line from Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid

Butch Cassidy: Ready? OK, when we get outside and we get to the horses, whatever happens, just remember one thing... hey, wait a minute.

Sundance Kid: What?

Butch Cassidy: You didn't see Lefors out there, did you?

Sundance Kid: Lefors? No.

Butch Cassidy: Oh, good. For a moment there I thought we were in trouble.

Probably more memorable lines in that movie than all of the rest of my favorites.
