Problem with this scenario is both have qualifying offers which would cost a draft pick to sign. This is the primary reason they are unsigned at this point.

Understandable but where in Jerry’s resume has he shown the ability to draft well?

Yeah it's definitely unlikely, but I do think it would be a really good idea that would essentially be paying for prospects. If I were Dipoto I'd just argue that unless something goes disastrously wrong, you'd only be paying both of them for around half of the year.

But then again this is just me playing with someone else's money, which is always fun.

Well ya, I’m just throwing scenarios out there too. I’m not advocating for making any real moves but they do have the ability to get better without needing to trade any of the young guys.

Kyle Lewis is looking like the prospect everyone projected now that he is finally over that freak knee injury and Evan white is looking like the permanent solution at 1st base

Mariners really are loaded in the outfield from an organizational standpoint.

The major league outfield has 3 good outfielders and Julio Rodriguez, Kyle Lewis and Jarred Kelenic all look quite promising.

Man really enjoy watching this offense right now now. It’s scary good.

Granted, they’ve played against horrible teams so far, but they themselves are supposed to be horrible too.

Look like Vogelbach finally decides to bust onto the scene. Dude is raking right now and it’s really hard for Servais not to play him.

8 of the 9 starters today has over .300 OBP for the season. Lowest guy is Narvaez at .286. This is one of the main reason why they’ve been able to score like crazy.

It won’t last, but it’s another fun stat to look at.

Yah... 2 HRs, 6 RBI and a Double today. Woof. I really hope he gets it going... he'll be 27 end of this year and this is his 4th year in the Ms org... so it's kind of time for him to start getting into it, especially where he can just DH most of the time. I was pretty happy about the trade at the time (also follow the Cubs if not obvious), hopefully the time with Edgar as hitting coach he can finally be the replacement for Cruz that I was always hoping for.

He doesn't have enough experience that pitchers have adjusted, so if he keeps up a decent pace - he'll go through that the adjustment pitchers will make, at which point we have to hold our breath. That said, I'd continue starting him - we need to see what we have. 85 AB last year, just isn't enough. And he consistently dominates AAA, so no point sending him down again to hope he improves. Just throw him out there.

Quite the logjam at DH/1B right now with Vogelbach, Encarnacion and Bruce on the roster.

Nice to see Vogelbach finally get in rhythm though.

Curious to see if Vogey gets a little more consistent at the plate b4 I say play him often as regular DH. Don't think he'll be a regular @ 1st. He's too big and not agile enough IMO. His speed on the bases is not a strong point so he needs to go deep at the plate, at least a double and hopefully guys on base when he comes to the dish.

The good news on Vogey is that he's also shown a good eye at the plate, and even his half swings have left the yard, including that left center shot in Seattle in April. Dude has serious power. He's also shown that he can hit line drives, not merely a fly ball hitter.

He just needs a consistent shot at the majors to see how he can take a full season. If Bruce keeps hitting bombs he can hopefully be moved asap.

But they are still just prospects. I want them to succeed without question but if they don’t sign someone because they are afraid of losing picks then I think they need a hard look in the mirror and realize he has as bad a track record of drafting as he does having his teams make the playoffs.

This is the one thing that truly sucks for him. Vogelbach’s lack of mobility or any diversity in his game is always going to hurt but if he just had a little diversity he could play more taking time at say 3B or something.

Vog needs to be getting regular ABs. You need to find out now if he can stick around. If that means Edwin or Bruce are riding more of the bench, then that needs to happen

I meant versatility not diversity. No idea why I couldn’t think of that word.

While the M's offense is tearing the cover off the baseball and the new additions have had a major impact so far, let's take a look at how some of the former M's are doing currently:

Cano: .205/.225/.385/.610 OPS. 2HR, 4RBI
Segura: .324/.361/.412/.773 OPS. 0HR, 5RBI
Cruz: .256/.480/.579/1.1059 OPS. 1HR, 6RBI
Zunino: .077/.077/.077/.154 OPS. 0HR, 1RBI
Gamel: .222/.263/.278/.541 OPS. 0HR, 0RBI
Heredia: .429/.500/.517/1.071 OPS. 0HR, 2RBI
G. Beckham: .125/.300/.500/.800 OPS. 1HR, 1RBI

Yes, it's very early and these are just small sample sizes for the 2019 season due to limited ABs, but don't really miss any of them. Cruz and Segura are doing their thing as expected but if Vogelbach, Bruce, and Encarcion continue to do their thing at DH/1B stuff, it's a plus.

Cano's numbers are meh, but he's going to heat up eventually as the weather gets warmer.

If Zunino don't show signs of improvements in TB, he's gonna be out of the league fairly soon here.

Happy Felix Day!

Felix (1-0, 1.69 ERA) vs Bailey (0-0, 5.40 ERA) 4/8/19 @5:15 in KC.

Can Felix follow up on his great last start? Felix's 2nd start so we shall see.

M's - 9-2
Royals - 2-6

Maybe it doesnt matter in the end but this organization probably ruined him with what happened to him between 2013-2015. I think given the right situation he had the tools to be better but i think its probably too late for him now

I don’t doubt in your assessment that this organization more likely than not ruined him. Much like they ruined Ackley. And maybe even Smoak during his time here but he went on to put up some decent numbers in Toronto.
