Nice work by MLB to completely forget about Tony Gwynn last night. I guess it would have been too much to take Jeter's manhood out of their mouth long enough to make a mention of the late 15 time all-star who is also a HOFer.

:agree:

An absolute disgrace. MLB and Fox should be ashamed of themselves.

I knew someone would let me know when a new place was found. That someone was also clem. This site seems really cool! Check out the "Fannation is Dead" thread.

San Diego sports radio is on fire this morning.

Expect calls for lifetime Fox boycotts.

And yet totally unsurprising. Baseball continues to thrive in spite of its best(worst?) efforts.

Pretty pathetic that they didn't even mention Gwynn. If he had been a Yankee they would have retired his number and cancelled the season in his honor.

I like baseball reference's idea of them stopping the game for a 3 min tribute to all the departed players and managers.

Don Zimmer deserved a moment too.

I like your inferiority complex.

:suds:

I'm a Laker fan, I don't have an inferiority complex. I just state the truth and Yankee fans can't deal with it. Jeter is not one of the greatest players of all time but you guys worship the guy like he is. If he were a Pirate, most of us wouldn't even know his name.

:suds:

So the vast majority of baseball fans who felt it was an oversight to not even mention Tony Gwynn have an "inferiority complex."

You Evil Empire fans can be some arrogant sons-o-bitches.

True. So if Jetes is "all class" why didn't he mention either?

I've been hearing that for 20 years and it hasn't changed my opinion or the opinion of any Yankee fan, but you go ahead and keep repeating it for another 20 years if it makes you feel better.

No.

The "inferiority complex" comment was an east coast dig at you west coasters who can't go through a full day without bitching about how much more love the east coast teams get, in this case, the Yankees.

I agree with the oversight part.

A small piece from an article today

"Jeter was never MVP. Jeter never won a batting title. Jeter has 3,408 hits. But longevity helped, and he’s mostly a singles guy. Jeter won five Gold Gloves, but he’s no Ozzie Smith.

Nomar Garciaparra won two batting titles. His career batting average is .313. Jeter’s is .311. But not many would say Garciaparra is in the same class as Jeter. Garciaparra wasn’t a Yankee.

Joe Mauer has won three batting titles. His career batting average is .320. But he’s not a Yankee.

They couldn’t even say Gwynn’s name on TV last night. Gwynn wasn’t a Yankee.

You can be really, really good and still be overrated. That’s Derek Jeter.
