Those are the type of wins that earn you a B1G Title. Minnesota was on their game today. They were above 50% on threes. They were draining every mid-range jumped. The crowd was behind them. Even when we made a play, the ball always seemed to trickle to a wide-open Gopher. We won this game because we had three of the best four players on the court. They all had to play to their skills in order for us to win this, and thank god, they did.
The biggest difference between Gard and Bo is how they use their bench. Bo consistently used 7-8 guys and it was unheard of for him to use more than 10. Gard always uses at least 10, and he gives the big-time bench guys a lot more minutes. It'll be good if it gives our top players more energy come tournament time, but it almost cost us the game today. Hill was getting killed repeatedly. His travel when we had a chance to put the game away was awful. His no-foul with 11 seconds left and 2 fouls to give, on a wide-open three, when we were up three, was one of the stupidest plays I can ever recall the Badgers making. And passing to Happ up one in OT almost cost us the game. Let them foul you or call a timeout and let us try to get it back in to Bronson. Hopefully, he learns his lesson.
And I'm really impressed with the Gophers. To go from their trainwreck last season to this bunch is a huge difference. And Coffey is about as ideal as you can get for a Freshman...he's great enough to turn a team around without being enough of a superstar to likely leave early. I hope I'm wrong about that, because I don't want to deal with him for three more years.
Pretty spot on. Badgers had the 3 studs. Gophers had the quality depth. Great game. Hayes has to be maddening at times for you guys. He should have just backed down curry all day.
You're right on Coffey. Unless he really bulks up or his 3pt stroke gets really good he will be at the U a while. Which is dangerous.
