ontinuing with the theme of this young season, another championship contender has lost one of its most important players. This time it’s Tennessee – not a player on the national scene, but certainly a threat to win the SEC East – who will be without linebacker Curt Maggitt indefinitely after suffering a hip injury in the Vols’ loss to Oklahoma on Saturday.
“This young man means everything to us, not just from a character standpoint and a leadership standpoint, but his productivity,” head coach Butch Jones told the Associated Press.
Jones said Maggitt suffered the injury while attempting to avoid an Oklahoma player while guarding against a fake punt. “It’s just a true freak injury,” he said.
A senior out of West Palm Beach, Fla., Maggitt earned consensus preseason All-SEC honors after posting 48 stops with 15 TFLs and a team-high 11 sacks in 2014.
Junior Corey Vereen and freshman Kyle Phillips are expected to see the lion’s share of Maggitt’s snaps. Tennessee’s defensive line was already thin before Maggitt’s injury as defensive tackle Danny O'Brien is presently suspended for a violation of team rules.
I'm not feeling too great about the game either.I honestly don't think we beat Florida
