The problem with that quote is that the criteria for a Blockbuster movie failing... isn't being edged out by another movie and coming in 2nd place for the weekend. A blockbuster can easily still be considered a huge success without 'winning' its weekend.

On the other hand, in sports, failure is anything short of being 1st.

Dude, put it this way....if the Cavs don't win the title, they are the Fantastic 4 reboot.

If the Heat make the playoffs, they are Paranormal activity.

Based on what Wiggy posts here anyway...

For the record, I like Wiggy...a whole big bunch.

But, when you do that much boasting on things that have not happened, you have to take your lumps.

I think the Cavs will go back to the Finals.

But, I don't think they will win if they face the Spurs.

They have a chance against anyone else.

But, with that ridiculous payroll, it's title or bust.

Trying to spin it otherwise is silly for Cavs fans.

Its Championship or Bust for the Cavs.

Anything else would be a complete abject failure.
There is no other way to spin it.

They took on ridiculous contracts and outspent everyone by a large margin.
They play in an Eastern conference where there is only about two total contenders.
Lebron is aging. He doesnt have several years to build it slowly.

They are all in.

IMO, this year is the best chance the Cavs have ever had at a championship and possibly the best chance they will ever have. Yes, they are all in. Yes, anything short of a championship is failure.

That said... there is a HUGE difference in how I would view failing in the Finals vs failing before the Finals. HUGE.

I don't understand that logic.
Every single 'expert' that I've seen has the Cavs penciled into the Finals.
IMO, that makes losing before that point and epic disaster, as far as sports go.
If James does make it back, and then loses for the 3rd straight time, it's a bust..plain and simple.

Yeah... so it sounds to me like we are agreeing. They are both failures. But failing before even getting to the Finals would be a much more severe version of failure.

Just noticed Dorell Wright decided to go to China. I like this decision for him.

He's only had a handful of decent seasons (out of 11) during his career and he likely got more than an NBA team would offer him.

If Thompson was on the Kings, Wiggy would go on about how this is a continued string of bad moves made by the Kings. Thompson is not worth the money he's asking for, plain and simple. Break it down how you want, but he's going to be grossly overpaid. It doesn't matter how the cap is increasing or other bullshit factors that dip shit tries to bring up. Wiggy just likes to argue to argue.

This is undeniably true. And he'd criticize them for paying him so much.

There really was no reason to debate that quote and analyze it further.

Just mention to Wiggy that Durant's better off without Westbrook. That will make him pop a titty.

 Welcome to the land of message boards where people discuss things.

Yes, I'm fully aware of what the purpose of message boards are. But wow, that was as perfect of an analogy that Mecca made, and you still felt the need to get technical with it. Cavs fans - arguing just to argue.

You like the analogy. I don't. That's fine.

Movies aren't competing with anyone. You can have 10 successful movies in one summer. Only 1 NBA team can succeed every summer. I don't think the Cavs fit the analogy of a failed blockbuster, nor would they if they lose in the Finals again next year.

I'm not arguing to argue. I'm just sharing my honest opinion.

Just about everyone begs to differ, even your own resident homer, Wiggy. You have the best player in the world, and another two players that are in the top 15 (or just barely out of it when considering Kevin Love). You've also got by far the most expensive roster in the NBA, that has now played a year together. The Cavs also play in the East which is by far significantly weaker competition than what's out West. Outside of Washington, Miami, and Chicago, the Cavs have a easy road to the Finals where they'll likely only play anyone of significance in the conference finals. You don't think that title or bust is the mantra heading into next season? If you don't, then you have very low unrealistic expectations.

You misunderstand what I'm saying. I do think it is a title or bust year for the Cavs. I do think that anything short of a championship is failure.

I just don't think the analogy is good because in sports you can have a great team, put in a great season, have a great playoff run, full of great performances... but come up 1 point short in a Finals Game 7.... and all of that climaxes in failure.

A failed blockbuster on the other hand... is a total bust... it isn't any good, nobody goes to see, nobody likes it. It completely flops. That would be a good analogy for the Cavs if they flame out at some point in the Eastern conference playoffs... but not if they lose again in the Finals to the Spurs or Warriors...in my opinion.
