There's definitely some risk/downside to the Cavs strategy of committing all this money.

Depending on what they do with the Haywood piece... and IF they do anything with Varejoa... it's not nearly as bad as some are making it out to be (Also depends on TT's actual numbers, which is still a ?)

I mean, If you're going to lock in a bunch of players to long term contracts this is THE BEST year to do it.

It would be much worse if Love had gone with a 1 year deal, like most thought he would

The Cavs are doing exactly what they should do. This is their chance and it may never come again. So, they go all in on Lebron and keep their fingers crossed that they can stay healthy long enough to get at least one title. We can debate all day on whether or not they are spending their money on the right pieces, tying up too much money in 1 position, etc. but not on whether or not they should spend what they are spending.

Even if they end up with zero titles in all of this and they end up right back where they were when Lebron is gone, they are still doing the right thing by their fans, imo.

basically giving Draymond Green his max deal necessitated Lee moving on because of the rest of the Warriors payroll.

The Warriors have Curry for the best contract in the league too...I think he has what? 2 years left at like 22 million?

Bogut, Iggy, Green, Klay all get paid a ton. They needed to move Lee to give themselves some breathing room. Nice deal.

months ago I thought GSW would have been a possible landing spot for Haywood in a deal- us taking Lee- and an asset attached to him- but it did not work out that way for a number of reasons- in cluding the warriors being able to get rid of him (but having to take Wallace's deal), and the Cavs are just too far into the tax....

Honestly- I think right now the Cavs are in the tax bracket - where any additional salary costs them a ton

for example- Mo Williams

lets round off and say he makes 2 million

thats taxe at about 4-1

so- they will pay 8 mill in tax, and 2 in salary

so signing Mo williams to a 2M contract will cost the Cavs 10M this year. Pretty crazy.

That's why bringing back JR is most likely out of the question. The trade will bring a wing player and bring in a cheap MLE for 1.3 mil as one more backup. It would cost the Cavs somewhere between 25-30 a year bring back JR, if I am correcting. See ya! lol

I'll take Kyrie and Love at $30-40 a piece less than what they would make in a couple...all day. Lebron will get a huge contract, but it is better than paying 3 full max guys the money. They couldnt do that or most likely any team even with the cap going up. Role players come and go, actually some of these role players will be there a couple years. So I dont get why people think this core is not worth it lol.

in a couple years guys who are not nearly as good as Kyrie and Love will be signing max deals in the range of 25-30M a year.

to get Love and Kyrie locked in at about 22 and 17 respectively is a major coup. Those contracts will look better and better as time goes on. Plus- signing your guys this year is extremely smart. Next year EVERYONE will have cap room for a limited pool of players. Its simple supply and demand. If you think contracts have been outrageous this offseason- wait itll next when three-quarters of the league has a ton of room. Thats when the Cavs will be extremely happy to have gotten their business done this offseason.

Dan Gilbert really wants to be the owner who breaks the streak in Cleveland. At some point money matters less than leaving your imprint on history.

yah...if they bring back JR it will be something like 7 in salary and like (depending on the progressive brackets) 21M in tax--- so 28 million player cost on Jr Smith.

If Dan wants to pay it...its not my money....but at some point paying tax on a 4-1 basis gets pretty prohibitive.

I'm the same way. If he wants to pay, go ahead more options for scoring.
But if they get Crawford, no need for Smith too. That would be a waste of money.

KYrie started 75 games...and played top 10 minutes per game in the entire league. Curry has a WAAAAAAAY worse injury history than anything Kyrie ever had. As long as Kyrie never suffers a chronic progressive injury- its nothing to worry about.
Wow...really Curry has a WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY worse injury history than Kyrie? Then how come Curry has played in more games than Kyrie since Kyrie came into the league? And that's counting only the seasons since Kyrie was drafted. That sounds like Curry was HEALTHIER than Kyrie to most with common sense.

Kyrie's injuries:
1/2/14 - sore knee
3/16/14 - left biceps
12/11/14 - left knee injury (left game)
12/28/14 - left knee contusion
1/4/15 - lower back tightness
1/21/15 - illness
2/27/15 - left shoulder strain
5/22/15 - left knee tendinitis
6/5/15 - fractured left knee cap

Steph's injuries:
11/19/13 - concussion
2/22/15 - sore right ankle

This is just a really recent list. Clearly it shows Curry being WAAAAAAAAY more hurt than Kyrie. If you don't see this as being injury prone there's no reason to even continue this discussion since you're conducting yourself as a blind homer and have left reality.

GOOD! that team was the best in basketball after they made their moves- and pushed the Warriors to 6 games despite missing 3 huge pieces! Im ecstatic they are bringing back the same team plus a couple minor additions as that team has young players that are still improving- and played absolutely amazing basketball together!

30-3 after the trades when LeBron/Love/Kyrie played together.

Good luck to the rest of the league

i feel yet ANOTHER 70 win prediction coming on...

Clearly...but I'm sure he's got some "reasoning" as to why the lists aren't comparable.

Where does this 30-3 that Wiggy and Shane keep talking about come from? The Cavs went 24-9 over the last 33 games of the season.

In those last 33 games, they lost to the Pacers (twice), Bulls, Rockets, Hawks, Heat, Nets, and the Celtics (twice).

Maybe with the depth lol. Not if they sit Kyrie at the end of the season, more like 65
Right because they were able to do either BEFORE he fractured his knee cap....oh wait!!!!

wow...you are clueless. Look at Curry's first few years in the league. He came into the league as a small guy- and his ankles caused him to miss a ton of games. He grew out of the injuries though. Hopefully Kyrie can too- and his injuries were never nearly as severe as Curry's.

ask the Golden State fans- they will tell you the same thing. ITs one of the reasons why they have Curry on such a great contract.

"
hile there has been some discussion among Golden State Warriors fans about whether Stephen Curry's problem is "ankle instability", one orthopedic surgeon suggests that Curry's doctors might need to step outside the box and consider diagnoses beyond the ankle.

Back in January, Brian McCormick weighed in on Stephen Curry's chronic ankle injuries for GSoM saying that the problem would appear to be his stride pattern. Curry reportedly addressed the movement issue this offseason as part of his rehabilitation.

Then he got injured again in the Golden State Warriors' game against Portland on Friday and we've had a long discussion about whether this latest incident was just a freak accident or there is still lingering ankle instability that will remain a problem throughout the season.

However, Dr. Lance Silverman - an ankle and foot specialist in Minneapolis - suggests in a recent blog that perhaps the focus on Curry's ankle is misplaced and that Curry's doctors might need to think outside the box a little.

Stephen Curry probably doesn't have ankle instability. Instead, he has another joint that is unstable. "All that rolls is not the ankle." His condition hasn't been completely diagnosed or treated, and his ankle arthroscopy surgery back in April did not address the instability. After reviewing the video, it's clear that there is something wrong that needs to be further evaluated. I would start with a clinical examination to find the area that has been incompletely treated...It seems to be in another area outside the ankle like the calcaneocuboid joint.
