I saw that as well. I saw that the max the Lakers could offer is 4 years $86 million. Personally, I think that's the right contract for him as he's not a max player, but he's still pretty damn good. Hopefully he bites as this gives more money for Wade. :hope:

The Lakers would be a 4yr/80mil max deal.

The Heat are offering 5/80.

So, the Heat are lowballing him...which is odd considering what they are going thru with Wade.

Dragic should explore his options. That’s not only his right once he declines his $7.5 player option, it’s wise. Why not hear out teams?

But that process will almost assuredly lead him back to Miami.

He can make more money if he re-signs with the Heat (yellow) than he could get elsewhere (red):

Season Re-sign Sign elsewhere

2016
$19,027,800 $19,027,800
2017 $20,454,885 $19,884,051
2018 $21,881,970 $20,740,302
2019 $23,309,055 $21,596,553
2020 $24,736,140
Total $109,409,850 $81,248,706

That fifth year is very significant. I don’t see anyone paying a 33-year-old Dragic $24 million if he comes a free agent at 33.

Me too..I was just about to post this.

That's not good.

Why risk hurt feelings when other Teams are ready to pounce?

Why assume they are hurting his feeling?
Obviously Riley is still committed to keeping valuable cap space alive for next summer.
The Heat wants players that want to win.
They need to buy into the plan.
I'm not trusting these leaked numbers as gospel.

My best guess is maybe the 5 for 80, with an opt out after 2, that allows him to get a raise when the salary cap escalates.

I wouldn't say the Heat are lowballing him at all.

Not every player is a max.

16 mill per year for someone who is barely a top 10 PG and some don't even think he is that is not lowballing him.

This is the problem with the NBA today. Every player think they're a max player.

I totally agree bksballer. When you have role players making millions and many not hitting simple things like FTs on a consistent basis, this business of players thinking they are due a max contract just because is beginning to eat into the integrity of the game.

I agree with both of you, but both sides need to consider that a max now will soon be a 2/3 max based on the new cap projections.

I hear what you are stating Turnup but at some point, the salaries are so far inflated not even remotely reflecting the worth of the services provided by the player. I think we are at that point right now.

A player is worth whatever a Team is willing to pay him.

If the Lakers/Knicks are willing to give him the Max, then he is worth it.

Here is Miami's worst nightmare:

Wade and Dragic feel underappreciated at both take their talents to the Lakers.

Chris Mannix: While many execs still see Wade/Heat as contract saber rattling, a Wade option will be the Lakers. Mutual interest, per league sources. Hard to see LA offering Wade a better chance to win than Miami, especially in the West. But it is LA, and they do have money to burn.

“Is D-Wade going to stay with Miami next year?” Dwyane Sr.: You know I’ve heard that maybe two-to-three hundred times. And the best answer I can probably give to that is, you guys have had D-Wade ever since he came in the league, let’s just pray with God that he stays here the rest of the way.

It is what it is.

If guys like Reggie Jackson and Brandon Knight get max deals, so should Dragic.

The Cap is about to go bananas in a year and if Dragic continues to play good ball, a Max deal this Season will be what role players make next year.

Why?

Because he is a professional athlete and most have huge egos.

When you take into consideration that other Teams might possibly, because we don't know that for sure, offer him nearly the same amount over the course of a 4yr contract, why even risk it?

Remember: This could be his last big deal.

Assuming that a team like the Knicks offers him max money..

Do you think he'd choose to play with Carmelo for 20 mil per Season or Bosh for 16?

If the Lakers want to give wade 15-20 mill yearly for a guy who struggles to play 60 games yearly? Go right ahead

Yardbarker quoted the ESPN article incorrectly. Sees to me like the righ offer is 5 years 95 million if other teams would offer him 4 years 85 million. The reality is his agent may make Rile blink like Bosh's agent did....

Obviously it's all in the wording, but it's also all assumptions.
Dragic is under contract, so there is no reason to assume that there hasn't been communication of what both sides are looking to accomplish.
I highly doubt Dragic has said I want a 5 year max or I'm gone.
If that were the case, then why on earth would the Heat ( if it's even true) say they were going to offer less?
