My guess is they did it on purpose as a fuck you to the NFL. Kraft is not happy with Roger and he's going to use every non-serious way he can to show that to him.

I hate the league as much as the next person...but the fact that this organization is cheating, and has been cheating for a decade, with relatively little punishment, is disgusting. I mean, I'm 80% done with caring about the NFL. I honestly didn't watch last night...baseball was on. Once hockey is back too, my care will probably be even lower. It all speaks to Roger's complete, utter incompetence to do his job, as well as the mangled infrastructure at the top of the league. You have owners, a commissioner the owners control, and players. The players work for the owners, and the commissioner is in charge of punishing both the players and franchises...run by the owners. THAT MAKES LITERALLY NO SENSE. The CBA clearly means jack shit, and it is shitty to begin with. The guy let the Pats go with a slap on the wrist a decade ago, which is the major issue. You can't decide ten years later "Huh...maybe I'll punish them harshly in this case where I have no concrete evidence." It's amazing how incompetent he is. Fact of the matter is, you can't have a construct where a commissioner is in charge of punishing his boss.

I disagree with none of this, but also find last night's communications issues amusing.

I'm pretty much where you are in terms of taking the NFL seriously. I still watch, but mostly because it's still the most entertaining sport to bet on.

If I were a neutral party, I would've laughed too. Again: the Steelers lost because of Gronk. But headsets not working is a huge issue on a gameday. Not being able to talk to the guys in the booth is very detrimental. That comment is more for people brushing it off as not being a big deal. When you sever your only line of communication it's a big deal. You can adjust on the fly, but it's not like you can send smoke signals down to the field or something. Teams spend all week game planning, and to have something like that happen is rough. I'm pretty confident it's huge for audibles. Guy in booth is checking out coverage/formation, says something to his guy on the sideline, they relay a hand signal. Not having that is going in blind.

The NFL is a joke, and the Patriots are the punchline.

From what I've read this morning, communications are entirely the jurisdiction of the league itself. So maybe all the anger is being directed at the wrong party.

Nah, Deadspin's article hashes it all out. The NFL provides the headsets, but the home team is in charge of making sure they're running, essentially. And there's an equity rule that states if one team's isn't working, the other's get turned off...last night they went to 'unplug' the Pats...and suddenly Steelers were working again.

What Exactly Happened With The Steelers' Headsets?

People have complained of headset hijinks in New England for years now. There was even one discussed in the recent ESPN article where they predicted specifically that it would go out at a key play and it did.

Could all be coincidence, but with how much shit the pats have been busted for, it's hard to take anything as a coincidence anymore.

I will never understand the 4th and inches play of shotgunning back 5 yards

I think over 50% of all the commercials I've seen in the past week have been for DraftKings or Fan Duel.

I flipped between the CBS and Fox games earlier...four combined over one break. Sort of bugs me that the leagues are trying to cash in big on these sites...
