Before the lead totally evaporates. 4 game lead now from 8.5 just a week ago. The Giants need to make a move for a starting pitcher badly. The offense needs Belt back as well so the players can hit where they are supposed to in the order.

Sanchez needs to be traded. He gets hit in the head way too much. I doubt he finishes the season and the Giants have a great prospect ready to be called up.

They'll definitely make a move or 2 (they need to do something about 2nd base too) but it's a bit early. Most deals get done in July, the later half.

I guess Sanchez could conceivably be part of a trade, sure. But in a pennant race are we ready for a raw rookie to play every 4th day and try to manage the staff?

And remember, to get anything worthy of a contender back you have to give up real assets. We're not going to get away with just dealing Hector and Adrianza for real talent back. Think Crick. Think Wheeler for Beltran.

Why wouldn't you want to make an upgrade as soon as possible? That doesn't make any sense to me.

I think it depends on who or what you are trying to upgrade ....
For me ... I'll wait on any pitching changes that may or may not be needed .... I would trade for a 2nd baseman immediately .... I just don't see any other options. Panik is not the answer quite yet .... our current 2B crop of players are a problem for us at the moment ... .

Because most teams aren't ready to 'sell' yet, everyone thinks they can get hot for a month and be in the wild card hunt. In July teams finally get realistic. MAYBE Tampa is ready, with the worst record in baseball, so maybe you make a buy it now offer for Zobrist.

But again we gotta remember, we're going to howl about what we are giving up, because you gotta give to get. It's going to be Wheeler for Beltran again. I still think that was the right move to make, even though it didn't 'work'. It's pretty similar today, moves need to be made, we're going to have to give up young talent that will probably haunt us in 3 years to get some proven names to help us make a push. And we might STILL not win a ring.

Just sayin'.

OH yes! A million times yes! EACH hole we try an close/mend will cost us some future talent. When all is said and done ..... we still do not know it will make us champions or even push us in the right direction .... I also thought Beltron was a good move at the time. I also remember thinking that Sidney Ponson (?) was the pitcher that would take us to a WS .... didn't quite happen. Of course you also have the Cody Ross types of puick ups .... you never know

I hear the Gigantes might be interested in my Mets' 2B Dan Murphy....?
I'm leaning towards hell no at this point...but could be swayed by the deadline depending on who we get in return.

They definitely will be looking for a proven 2B...Murphy would be good, we like Zobrist too.

How's his defense been? I remember when he first came up it was sad to watch (at least from a West coast perspective, meaning highlighting all the bad plays), poor kid couldn't find a position. Has he settled into second base?

He kinda reminds me of Mark DeRosa.

Who, I hear, is available to anyone who wants to pick up the contract.

Latest on Scutaro per Rotoworld:

Marco Scutaro (back) will take swings on Friday.

Scutaro was cleared for conditioning last Thursday and is now ready to begin trying baseball drills. The veteran second baseman had a blood-spinning procedure in mid-May for his chronic back problems. There is still no timetable for his return to the Giants. Jun 12 - 2:43 PM
Source: Alex Pavlovic on Twitter

Any validity or support for this?

I understand that teams might not be ready to sell yet, but that wasn't what I took his post to be referring to at all. Maybe I was wrong though.

I don't have a problem giving up talent to get talent as long as it makes sense. If I remember correctly my problem with the Wheeler for Beltran trade was that I thought we could have gotten Beltran for less than Wheeler. I think it was the right move in the end, but I think I remember the Giants having a bit more leverage in that situation. It's been awhile though and I could be completely wrong.

You're right though, nothing is a given in sports. The team has to have short term and long term plans in place.
