Free throws absolutely matter. You still need to make them if you're fouled in the act of shooting.

I don't think anybody is suggesting that they be eliminated. Just de-incentivize them.

I want fouls in the backcourt to be 1 shot and the ball under 2 minutes left in the game. the foul game is a fricken joke and a embarrassment to the game. the college average for free throw shooting last yr was 68% and according to some dude on the radio here in Chicago the average free throw shooting percent in the final 2 minutes of the game was 53%. the 1 and 1 is rewarding fouling

I would be open to your fouls in the back court rule. That is something that could work nicely.

I don't really like the quarters though. Two halves is good for college and wouldn't speed it up a whole lot more anyways. The 4th qtr would still be the same. You just wouldn't have guys automatically going to the line to start the 3rd/4th but add in the media timeouts between qtrs and its more commercial time unless you propose changing the every 4 minute media timeout rule.

I suggested that basketball should adopt a new rule because the current one encourages poor sportsmanship and I gave an example of another sport that has a similar rule.
