Ti Walker - 4 more years of club control

In November of 2014, one of us started a thread predicting Kyle Seager would be on the trading block soon because he was becoming too good and his free agency was looming soon enough that he was closing in on peak trading value.

Two weeks after we started that thread, the Mariners locked him up long term.

Maybe we can make the magic work again.

I don't think applying the same logic to a pitcher is wise. Injuries are too common and pop up out of nowhere. Given Walker is great athlete and is off to fantastic start this season. However, if he does have 4 years of team control left, I would think negotiations won't start for another two years given he continues to improve as he has this year.

The current trend in the majors is to lock them up long term and try to buyout the arbitration years and first year or two of free agency. It may be a year too soon for Walker, but if they wait two years, it will be too long. If he gets that close to free agency, he's going to go for it.
