One year deal worth 3.5 mil is what I heard. Pretty crappy news considering it wouldn't have taken all that much to resign him.

You beat me to it!

Well, on one hand I am sad to see him leave because he is an excellent cover CB. I really believe he could be a #1 on many teams in this league but circumstances (injuries, suspensions) have derailed this.

On the other hand I am not too upset at him leaving because he is a suspension away or another blown knee (he already has blown up both before) from his career essentially being over.

The G-men seem to be kind of a mess. He should be able to get plenty of snaps over there.

Even if Seattle paid him 5 mil he wasn't coming back here. This is a one year deal for him to prove that he can be a #1, and he wasn't going to get that opportunity here.

Perhaps you're right. Either way this leaves us with Sherm and Maxwell, with Lane as our nickel

I think your right, he wanted a better chance to prove himself worthy then he would have gotten here.

Whatever.

Sherman/Maxwell/Lane/Simon (lot of people forgot about him)/Fenner (I think Sherman is high on him, or another guy)...

We're fine. Let Thurmond go. He's always injured and now that he's getting suspended F off. Rather have reliable guys on the field and all those guys I listed above are still searching for a pay day.

With nearly $20M in cap free, here is a good time to front load Thomas' contract and get some money out of the way.

I think it says something about the team being fed up with the suspensions they let bb and thurm walk....,now of course having mad max and lane already performing (outperforming?)them helps take a stance.......

Teams that are desperate don't care about suspensions (at the position anyway, which New England and New York certainly are). Seattle is not.

It hurts BIG time to have a player suspended on a nucleus like the LOB. Good riddance. Thurmond was an elite nickel back, but that's all he'll ever be. If he couldn't earn a #2 spot on his own in Seattle, then he's not that good. He'll go to NY, they will likely plug him in as a #1 and he'll heavily struggle until he gets injured or suspended again.

Browner? Browner was the worst player in the original LOB BY FAR. He was horrible on deeper routes and relied on a crazy wing span to deflect balls. When that failed it would burn him big or he'd just tackle the player and get a pass interference. He drew the most flags and let up the most deep balls. He was fantastic in press and open field tackles... but that's it.

Whatever. I'm perfectly comfortable with Sherman #1, Maxwell #2, Lane #3, Simon as a potential #2-or at worst #4, and another kid I'm forgetting who Sherman is high on.

Maxwell is a #1 on most teams anyway.

Love both browner and WT3, but the fact of the matter is we already have too much invested(or soon to be invested) in our other 3 starters Thomas, chancellor and Sherm. We can't pay another guy big money...we have to go young and stay deep at the 2nd and 3rd corner positions. I'm glad neither of them went to a division rival. In fact, none of our free agents have unless I missed something.

I think Akeem Auguste is the guy you are thinking of but yeah as long as he didnt go to the Niners I am ok with it.

People keep forgetting that we basically red-shirted out entire draft last year. I see no reason why our guys cant coach up Simon and make him into a good CB.

It's a calculated "prove I can be a starter" in the NFL contract. Goes to show the market for his services was very limited. It's a dice roll that he can turn his 2014 performance into a larger multi year deal somewhere.

It's a hit to the depth of our roster, but his size and abilities had him dedicated to mostly nickle duties / covering the slot. He would never get a big payday if he stayed with us. Thanks for the years of being a hawk and helping with the SB year, but buh bye.
