i asked this in an earlier post , no one answered. This is a serious topic around my house right now. At what point is it too late to start playing. Is it too late to start in 9th grade???? Do they need middle school or some form of youth football?

Ninth grade is fine, he'll if a kid decides in his, senior year he wants to play, what's wrong with that?

Nothing at all. I knew a kid back in high school who never played until 9th grade, and nearly moved to a HS that offered soccer, the sport he had played since 1st grade. He had grown to almost 6'2'', his dad talked him into playing football....8 years later he was playing in the NFL. Football coaches in college look for height and speed, they figure they can teach you the rest

Depends on the kid. You should know this form baseball. Some kids have some many damn games in
(playing year round) by the time they reach HS that it's pretty tough for any kid to start that late. But the right kid can catch up in no time. Football even easier for most positions to catch up.

Totally. Baseball, basketball, gold, all skill sports. In football, if you are 6'5" and 260 and can run, you just went to the head of the class

I don't know. They split our middle schools a few years back that feed into one high school. I went to a few games this year- it was ugly. Coach doesn't really seem to care. If they play I want them to learn how to tackle , block, etc. the right way.

I thought it would be the opposite. With all the things they are learning about head trauma, especially in young kids, I just assumed people would be more leary about letting young kids start playing.

Me personally I started in 4th grade, and stopped after exactly one college practice. No way I would let my son start before 9th grade. I'm not even sure if I would let him then.
