If we sign him to a long term deal it will be 5 years or more so we can spread out his signing bonus. The recent contracts have bumped up the RB market from where it was heading recently (Although Foster got a huge deal). Not sure what the team is thinking, but I think this would be a fair contract for all. McCoy just got 5 years for $40M with $18.25M guaranteed - guaranteed goes to $20.55 first day of 2016 so let's use that. Only the guaranteed money really matters. Other backs have gotten just over $20M guaranteed so I think that is what it will take to get him.

5 years $38M; $20M guaranteed.
Signing bonus: $13M
Year 1 salary $3M fully guaranteed
Year 2 salary $4M $2.5M fully guaranteed; $1.5M guarantees first day of 2016 season
Year 3 salary $4M + $1M roster bonus or incentive on games played (injury history)
Year 4 salary $4M + $1M roster bonus or incentive on games played (injury history)
Year 5 salary $7M + $1M roster bonus or incentive on games played (injury history)
Cap hits
Year 1: $5.6M
Year 2: $6.6M
Year 3: $7.6M
Year 4: $7.6M
Year 5: $10.6M

This doesn't really hurt our cap. In this scenario he doesn’t see year 5 unless he is still playing at this level (you can make year 5 $20M if you want) and likely gets to at least year 3 (we'd have a 2 year out at 2 for $20M) so basically it’s 3 for $25M or 4 for $30M. It’s probably slightly higher than we would want to go, but I don’t think we are going to let $1M or so per year change our decision when it comes time to make a decision. This would most likely give us the 4 year $30M deal with $2.6M in dead money to cut him before year 5. That's $7.5M per year. I think at least now Murray would want a little more and won't sign it. I also think the reason Murray hasn't been linked to any teams is because he is asking way too much. By the time he comes down we may be the only ones left standing.

Any thoughts?

could live with it but don't think Murray would. all he sees is dollar signs especially when teams like the Jaguars and Cards are talking 5 years 50+M

Looks good to me Jarntt but if I'm Murray, I'm not running to sign it.
You are 100% correct....it's about the guaranteed dollars and I think Dallas has to be in the ballpark.
Just not sure this gets done

Murray might have a little bit of sticker shock looking at those per year numbers but as stated it's all about the guaranteed money.

Totally Agree, this deal won't happen in the first couple of days. Like I said, I think it would require him finding a cold market at his current demand amount because he is likely asking too much. If he waits much longer to lower his price there may not be a lot of teams left to negotiate with and he could fall into our lap. He isn't likely getting $10M per from anyone and I think Jerry goes as high as $7M or $8M. We really don't know about how low he'll accept in guaranteed money, but it's got to be between $18M and $25M, right? I think we will be in the ball park there. So, does someone else go up to $9M per and take him for that?

I still say we are more than 50% to get him back. No news 2 days from now would be a huge sign. Any team that is going to give him $10M per will certainly want him enough to not wait more than a day to speak with him.

Let murray go rather than spend that much. He may have played in the 16 games, but the fact remains he got hurt again and was not as effective after the hand injury. Pick up a cheaper back in FA and draft our next feature back. Let the other teams overspend. If murray was not so injury prone I would be on board. When 100% he is the real deal

Bill Polian was just on local ESPN radio and said he doesn't think Murray comes back to Dallas if a deal isn't done by 4pm today. He talked about the agent saving face and his experiences say a type A player like Murray changes teams way more often than not.

I am afraid he is probably as good as gone, just hope they don't overpay some scrub to replace him at this point. Might as well draft a RB. Hope they don't count on Randle for anything but bench/backup role. Defense is going to be exposed more without the run game setting the tone

You could be right. Dallas said they were going to slow play free agency. I'm holding out hope we'll be a better team this coming season. Must be the fanboy in me.

If running back DeMarco Murray doesn't hear from the Cowboys by 4 p.m. ET, reports NFL Network, the Cardinals, Jaguars and possibly the Buccaneers will be "in the mix" to sign the reigning NFL rushing leader.

The Dallas Morning News reports the Cowboys were in touch with Murray's agent last night and plan to speak to him again Tuesday. But the message hasn't changed: Dallas wants Murray back, "but not at the price he's seeking," the paper said.

Murray, who ran for 1,845 last year, removed Cowboys' references from his Twitter bio in apparent discontent with the team's negotiating stance.

I hope they are better as well but some of these potential moves/non are questionable

I think he's gone. Just hope the Saints don't sign Dez since they now have two 1st rounders

Hard to say murph.
I just tend to wait for all the dust to settle before I consider if we're better or worse going into the season

The Cowboys should try and sign Dujan Harris to a contract.

He will have offers. What I put above was more if he resigns with us. If he goes to someone else I think it's a lot higher

ESPN's Adam Caplan reports Jaguars coaches and players are "making their pitch" to free agent DeMarco Murray.

This is our ninth Murray blurb of the day, and we don't seem to be any closer to knowing where he's going to land. It seems like the Jaguars, Raiders, and Cowboys are the three main contenders with the Eagles and Bucs lurking in the distance. After it looked bleak for Murray at the start, he's likely to get paid well.

Luckily for us Murray's most common response to the Jacksonville players was: who are you???
