Seems like I always look forward to the December Winter meetings - and they always come up a little short. Must be exciting to be a Fish fan and see your team transform in these few days.

I was really hoping to hear about a CarBel signing but now that's nothing but a remote (very remote) possibility. I was hoping for a little more than just the Melky and Pagan additions. Just don't see either one of them providing anywhere near the impact of CarBel. Just seems that we'll be heading in to the 2012 season with great pitching talent and quite a bit of 'I hope' .....

I hope Buster does recover 100% .... and no lingering injuries
I hope that Huff returns to some semblance of his 2010 season
I hope we see the 2011 Panda and not someone who's weight is higher than his average
I hope that Belt reaches the potential that most of us think he is capable of
I hope that Crawford can hit higher about 35 points higher than his weight
I hope that after two months of Melky and Pagan we're not saying "what the hell were they thinking"

I hope we make the playoffs
I hope we are the NL West title winners
I hope we are the NLDS winners
I hope we are the 2012 WS Champions

If the giants had signed CarBel, you could have added...

I hope CarBel does not get hurt and handcuff the org for years to come with another anchor contract.

I am OK with laying my hopes on Posey, Panda, Huff, Belt, et al. It may not work out, but nothing is guaranteed. Last year was a fluke season for the ages. A bigger fluke, IMHO, than 2010.

Good post SF, here's what I think is reasonable to expect for our offense next year.

Buster Posey - .285Avg - 17HR - .750OPS
Aubrey Huff - .275Avg - 22HR - .750OPS
Freddy Sanchez - .285Avg - 7HR - .725OPS
Pablo Sandoval - .300Avg - 23HR - .850OPS
Brandon Crawford - .225Avg - 7HR - .600OPS
Melky Cabrera - .275Avg - 12HR - .725OPS
Angel Pagan - .275Avg - 10HR - .725OPS
Nate Schierholtz - .275Avg - 12HR - .725OPS

Wild Cards (depending on PT.....and if Kepp is the one who is the one who is keppt)
Brandon Belt .250Avg - 12HR - .750OPS
Jeff Kepinger .285Avg - 7HR -
Brett Pill - .275Avg. - 12HR - .775OPS

Some of these numbers are conservative, some are wishful thinking, some I just pulled out of my ass.....but it's what I'm hoping for, lol. I think this offense (while still very mediocre) gives us just enough with our pitching staff to win the West.....once in the playoffs.....I also think the Diamondbacks will come back down to Earth a little this year since they'll have the target on their back and a lot of players had really nice seasons last year. Hopefully Justin pulls a BJ and he isn't on the up and up! :D

Well, for Fish fans (all 15 of them), this is a nice uptick from years of mediocrity and a horrible stadium. I still like being a Giants fan better.

Sometimes I envy Yankee and Red Sox fans, they don't even think about money. They got a hole, they fill it, and basically make the playoffs every year.

We have what we have. It's baseball, and it's not fair. But neither is life.

Yeah but the Yankees have only won what 1 WS this century? And the Red Sox 2 after years of crap. I don't envy years and years of almost but not really getting it done with giganamous payrolls and so little to show for it. Really the Yankees - as of late - are laughing stocks if you ask me.

Fuck them Go GIANTSWOOT!:usa2:

I live in NY so both the NYY and BOS (PHI too) fans are close at hand. Their fans are a different breed. There is very little talk of giganormous payrolls or under-achievement among them. They expect to ALWAYS make the playoffs. If they don't it's because of some cosmic misalignment. In most cases they do make the playoffs. As MSG noted, money is no object for their teams. They purchase whatever it takes to fill a hole. Making the playoffs does not insure a WS Championship but it does insure you'll have the opportunity. I'm not really sure how much these fans enjoy their regular seasons. They surely don't experience the 'torture', so to speak. For me personally, that was a big part of our 2010 season. I loved the the season from beginning to end. Just making the playoffs was exciting for me as a fan. I'm not really sure some of these 'other fans' actually ever enjoy the 'road' to the playoffs. I think for many of them the season doesn't come in focus until September and doesn't really start until October. I think they are missing out on a lot!

I hope to g-d that's accurate. That's a 100 win team with our pitching. Basically you project everyone to have a year as good as any they've ever had, or better.

I'd LOVE that to be correct. And it may be...nobody knows nuthin'.
