Yeah I agree you would think the hitter could kind of figure out the pitch based on where the defense is playing. But in theory using something like this should eliminate what the Astros were doing.

It just opens up another can of worms though so in reality it doesn't help one bit imho

i case you couldn't tell.. I don't give a DAMN about the pace of play! WHY change it? You mean you want to go to a game spend well over $100 bucks and be in the stadium for an hour... F that!
Well you know what. The main reason baseball is a dying sport is cuz there losing newer and younger fans due to length of games. So they will need to figure something out or the mlb won’t be around in 10 years with all the younger fans there losing

Seriously, why the fuck are they continuously trying to ruin the game with this type of bullshit. I saw you say somewhere else that you won't watch baseball if they bring in robot umpires. Do you mean that? I mean, I hate the fucking idea just as much as anyone else, but I think it would be hard to just give baseball/the Phillies up entirely. It's basically been apart of my entire life.
I don’t understand the motives behind many of the recent changes. A faster game isn’t creating new fans.

The ADD kids are going to be drawn to MMA and extreme sports anyway.

I honestly don’t see myself watching a game when pitchers painting corners is no longer an art form.

The tards that now run MLB think that changing the game, inventing new stupid rules and creating a carnival-like atmosphere at the ballparks is going to get a younger generation involved....Trying to make every at bat a home run, softball scores, etc.....Any game I go to half the fans are on their phones and don't know shit about the game......

I think probably the only good thing I can think of that Manfred has done was "banning" sticky substances last June (even though they were already banned and it was under his watch that the whole situation exploded in the first place). Also, adding the second Wild Card back in 2012 was a good idea.

Literally everything else the guy has touched has turned to absolute shit. He's like the perfect combination of Donald Trump's insatiable billionaires greed and Joe Biden's retarded drooling authoritarian senility. I'd hope he gets cancer but that's probably letting him off easy.

A more fitting punishment would be to send Marsellus in to go medieval on Manfred's ass. If he's not available, second best option is sending Cedrique in to shove a Fitbit up Manfred's ass

Exactly. The demo they are apparently trying to target with the recent changes are not going to like baseball anyway.

If the future of baseball is as a niche sport, lean into that. Embrace it.

Baseball will not be able to compete with the pace of football, basketball, hockey…. Heck, even lacross. And no way can it compete with x-sports or gladiator games.

Baseball is different. It always has been.

Not many people who don’t grow up loving the game ever get into it. Just not the type of activity/sport somebody wanders into.

And certainly isn’t the type of thing somebody is going to get into because it takes 15 less minutes than it used to. Or now features robots.

Games are longer now relative to most of baseball history. You can compare baseball to its past, not other sports to see what a disgrace of stagnation, endless pitching changes and shoulder injuries it is now.

I think I saw a study of the games in 2020 that found they were on average something like 20 minutes shorter than the games in 2019. The theory was that there was less peacocking going on without the crowds.

Introducing a pitch clock might address that, but that places the entire onus on the pitcher. I suspect batters stepping out ever pitch and real thing their gloves 3 times and clearing the dirt from their spikes again has just as much if not more to do with that than any posturing by the pitcher.

if you are looking more at the climactic shift of the games getting longer, I think TV is more to blame than the players. The time between innings/pitchers has gotten longer to allow for extra ads. But understandably, that will not be addressed when trying to “fix” this problem.

Was more getting at 10-12 year olds deciding to get into now.

Interesting. I did not know that about 2020. I have read that the average 9-inning game in 2021 was 3:10, longest in baseball history and the TV problem is worse in the playoffs. I agree about the batters. I think Ryan Braun was the worst culprit in the gloves adjusting routine I have ever seen so I am overjoyed he has retired. Truthfully I am more optimistic in phasing out traditional sign setting by catchers for purposes of modernizing the game than speeding it up for the forseeable future.

NBC ran a lot of split screen ads during the Olympics. Live action on the left with ads running on the right.

Not sure how much of a loss in revenue that is compared to the standard TV as, but there’s a nice way to cut 10 minutes.

At the end of the season this year, Tigers broadcasts would just cut away mid inning. They must’ve sold more ad time than they’d ran. Cuz they sure slammed in a lot of law firm ads over the last week or so. Sometimes it was multiple times per inning. Not a great viewing experience. Lol

Well baseball need to adapt with the times brother that’s what everyone does

Adapt possibly but why does it have to be to the point where fielders are wearing watches to see what pitch is being thrown?
