After reading this it shouldn't be a mystery why The Skins have struggled for decades.

Biggest thing the article hit? Resign T Williams, Kerrigan, Morriss, and if he doesn't cost to much Young.

To me the question is what happens going forward. Lets not underestimate the value of finally having a true GM in place. The first since Charley Casserly was here. If you consider a 50% success rate per draft for the next 3 years that's 12 new starters on one side of the ball plus one. Greater than 50% gives Somewhere close to 15 to 18 new players. I began a thread sometime ago about this same thing ( keeping our own players) that wasn't recieved well but in truth it is something that this team needs to begin doing in fact. Afterall, aren't we really tired of that old pick and patch other teams discards?

Take a look at their draft picks from the last 20+ years (read from the bottom up). Honestly - the problem isn't not retaining players for the most part. The problem is that most of the picks were horrible. This is where the new GM should make a real difference. However - the difference may not be obvious for a few years.

Nothing makes your point better than that 1981 draft, the best in the team's history when as you've pointed out they had a GM in charge of their draft. Finally, there's one in place here for thr first time since 1999 and hopefully his eye brings us more and more guys that come in ready to push for starting roles like that '81 class did. Good post.
