Batista was recently a guest on Chris Jericho’s “Talk is Jericho,” and during the interview Batista talked about his WWE debut.

Amidst talking about the Deacon Batista gimmick, Batista revealed another gimmick idea that never came to fruition. In Batista’s early WWE days, his character was constantly angry, and the gimmick was supposed to lead up to the revelation that Batista was a “r*pe child.” This would have been the source of his anger, as he was hateful of everyone because he had no father and his mother was raped.

Likely because they thought the fans would embrace him like they do other major stars who take a long-time hiatus from WWE (Rock, Jericho come to mind)....didn't workout the way they planned, but I do see where they were coming from.

They probably should've kept his Royal Rumble appearance a surprise, which would've likely gotten the fans behind him largely for the surprise shock, rather than bringing him back on Raw the week before which gave fans a chance to make up their mind on whether they like him or not.

Yeah. Circumstances ruined his return. It leaked out he was coming back so all the surprise was ruined. And then they made it worse by starting him out as a face for a couple of weeks. By the time they turned him full heel, he'd already been lost in the fold. If it never leaked and he showed up as a badass heel, fans would have been much more receptive.
