Poorly delivered by the actor, or poorly written?

My criticism of that episode would be that those two characters wouldn't speak like that, but that's a BROAD brush that applies to about 80% of TV.

Ironic (at least to me) is that 'good' writing is often identified as lyrical or powerful (speech!) and people just don't talk like that in real life.

People fawn all over Aaron Sorkin for his writing, and to me, he's the epitome of fanciful, non-realistic writing. People simply never speak that way.

I always loved Elmore Leonard because of his great ear for dialogue.

I thought that the Abraham episode was trying too hard to be poetic. But I thought the actor did a fine job delivering those lines.
I do not blame the actor at all.

If you WD fans are looking for a show w/ both great writing & great acting.....maybe it's time you gave Fargo (especially season 2) a shot.....trust me...you won't be disappointed.

Okay then....

That is all.
This is a show I have been meaning to check out for awhile now.

.

Again, I bring it back to the Annikan/Amidala comparison... Where nothing in TWD (Not even Carl ;) ) are near that bad, it illustrates the point... By all accounts Hayden Christensen is a very good actor, and we know Natalie Portman is... The lines were forced and painful to hear... I honestly don't know which is the case with Carl, but less is more there IMO... :)

Some actors can rise above mediocre source material. Others, not so much. So take Nic Cage. He can be PDG (Leaving Las Vegas), and he can be horrendous (those Burning Skull movies etc etc etc).

I'm reading into it, but I assume that the actor who plays Carl, isn't a guy who can make iffy dialogue sound good.

I'm not willing to put TWD dialogue in the 'terrible' folder, because it's pretty good most times. Cringe worthy material is usually pretty universally bad.

Rick being alpha male and steely-eyed, can pull off some purple prose.

Carl, 85 lbs soaking wet, not so much. :)

Maybe if he'd take off that over-sized novelty hat and cut that godawful hair, I could take him more seriously.

Nah, he'd look even less bad*ss with short hair. Like he should be dungeon mastering at his high school table top roleplaying club.

The kid who plays Carl, like many child actors, was very flat when he was younger. I feel like he's a lot better this year. He's coming into his own and the more important scenes he gets, the better he'll become, I feel.

The reason I liked the fight scene between Ron and Carl was because I felt like they were actually using force for the most part. It didn't feel like a pretend fight scene, at least to me.

As for Ron's Father, he kind of did get killed because he was an asshole. He beat on his wife and kids and when he got called out for it, he accidentally murdered one of the most important people in the community in a murderous rage with a weapon he clearly had no idea how to use. If he wasn't an asshole, most of that never happens.

Darabont was clearly the best, but he had artistic differences with Kirkman (he wanted to explore the cause and cure of the virus, Kirkman has no interest in that). This led to his ouster.

I have heard the story of Kirkman's differences with Darabont, but that is not what led to Darabont's firing.

The simple fact of the matter is that AMC wanted to reduce the budget of the series from 3.4 million to 2.7 million while increasing the number of episodes from 6 to 13 after season 1. In addition, the 30% tax credit they received for filming in Georgia went directly to the Network instead of the show's production budget as had been promised. Other network-imposed restrictions followed.

Darabont fought back against the network, began to make a huge pain in the ass of himself and was fired. As it turns out, the network got everything it wanted, including a hit beyond its wildest dreams. Ironic, isn't it?

By all accounts Hayden Christensen is a very good actor,

What accounts are those exactly? He may not be quite as bad as Eps 2 and 3 made him out to be, but "serviceable" is probably the ceiling for Hayden as far as acting goes.

I don't summarize that as, "Being an asshole". Especially when I'm trying to explain to his son why my father killed him...

"Hey Ron, yeah... Well, your dad was being a dick, so my dad killed him."

as opposed to.

"Your dad was beating the shit out of your mother and had just murdered your leader's husband who happened to be a pretty important member of the community... THAT is why my dad killed him..."

I am certainly not going to go to bat for him. The Star Wars movies are all I have seen him in and I forget where I read that he was a decent actor... Perhaps not.

Do it.

you'll be glad you did.

So I was channel surfing the other night and Fargo was on. I guess it was the newest episode, the one before the season finale. I had no idea what was going on.

Holy Crap on a Cracker. By episode's end, I was hooked. And of course it's not on Netflix!

I've DVR'd the second season, having missed the first.
Amazon has the first season. $1.99 per episode I think, $13.99 for the season.
