Former Boise State football player, Mike Bradeson, passed away on Tuesday (yesterday). He was not only a former Boise State football player but he was a starter on the 1980 Boise State National Championship team. In fact the defensive starters for that 1980 National Championship football team for Boise State were:

Defense
Pos.
# Name Class
LCB 28 Chris Bell Jr
SS 29 Rick Woods Jr
RCB 30 Mike Bradeson Sr
FS 42 Larry Alder So
NG 43 Bob Skinner So
ROLB 48 Ron Chatterton Sr
ROLB 52 Larry Lewis Sr
LOLB 57 Ralph Esposito Sr
RILB 58 Dan Williams Sr
LILB 59 Dan Brown Sr
LILB 61 Ray Santucci Jr
LDT 70 Randy Trautman Jr
RDT 83 Michel Bourgeau Fr

Rick Woods of course went on to play for six years in the NFL - 5 with the Steelers and 1 with Tampa Bay. Woods played his H.S. ball at Boise High School as did Larry Alder (both Safeties on the 1980 team) and Chris Bell played his H.S. ball in Buhl (Idaho). Bradeson was the only one of the four defensive backfield starters who came to Boise State from California.

Randy Trautman was the most honored football player in Boise State football history. A walk-on defensive tackle of the 1978 team, Trautman is the only Bronco football player to receive four first team All-American awards. Following his junior and season seasons Trautman was selected to the Associated Press and Kodak All-American squads.

That 1980 Boise State football team had all sorts of Boise State "legends". Bradeson was absolutely ONE of those legends. After his Senior year in 1980 Bradeson went on to be an assistant coach at Boise State from 1981 thru 1985. He was then hired by Nevada and worked there - for the first time - from 1986 through 1991. In 1992 he was hired by California and worked there as an assistant coach thru 1995. Then he was hired by U.N.L.V. and worked again as an assistant coach for the Rebels from 1996 thru 2009. After that he returned to Nevada where he again worked as an assistant coach from 2010 thru 2016.

Bradeson is the 3rd member of that 1980 Boise State football team - that I'm aware of - who has passed away all too young. The wide receiver who made the catch for the winning touchdown in that 1980 National Championship game, i.e., Duane Dlouhy, died in 2010. The most honored football player in Boise State history, Randy Trautman, died in 2014. And now Mike Bradeson has also passed away.
