I'm just looking at it from the other perspective, you can get much more in return by trading Cory to help push the Canucks over the hump, and Bobby Lou is still a top 10 goalie in this league.

i agree as well. but Id take less for Luongo if it means getting Schneider for 10 years at this pace. hell Id take a 4th round pick if that meant keep Corey for that long...

he had one year left correct? Im betting its longer than AV probably 3 to 5 extension.

it was the same as AV ... 1 year was remaining

i question the bold ... i dont know how much Gillis is enjoying certain elements of the job from what Ive heard

maybe he has a clause in it to scale back as GM and stay on as everything else after the next 2 or less?

"He indicated the switch to goalie Cory Schneider will probably be permanent."

Interesting but my guess is that's more Iain MacIntrye than Vigneault.

from mongers article

Before Gillis’ own extension, which is a year or two longer than Vigneault’s, was bestowed in a summit meeting with owner Francesco Aquilini just over two weeks ago

Yzerman actually isn’t ruling out trading for a goalie | ProHockeyTalk

And just because we enjoy baseless speculation, what if Yzerman were to call the Panthers about Jacob Markstrom, then Luongo could go to Florida? It’s far-fetched for any number of reasons, but you should still spread the rumor via Twitter and internet message boards

DONE AND DONE!

Hawks extend Mayers and Oduya...

The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with forward Jamal Mayers on a one-year contract extension, and defenseman Johnny Oduya on a three-year contract extension.

Mayers, 37, registered six goals, nine assists and a team-high 91 penalty minutes in 81 regular-season tilts with the Blackhawks during the 2011-12 regular-season, his first with the organization, and appeared in three Stanley Cup Playoffs contests. The Toronto native ranked third on the club with 102 hits and finished second on the roster with a 56.1% winning percentage in the faceoff circle.

Oduya, 30, paced Blackhawks defensemen with three assists in six games during the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, and tallied five points (G, 4A) and a +3 plus/minus rating in 18 regular-season tilts with Chicago after being acquired on Feb. 27 from the Winnipeg Jets.

word is Brule wont be qualified by the Coyotes

whom would you prefer, him or Mason Raymond? ("neither" is an acceptable answer)

Last week, Doug Maclean was talking about the 2005 draft and they had two players on their list to choose from, Brule and Anze Kopitar. It was essentially down to a coin flip when somebody with the Blue Jackets piped up, "Don't we have to take the North American guy?"

/to be fair, Brule put up some amazing numbers in junior...

am I alone in thinking Oduya is a horrible, horrible hockey player?
deal is $3.375m / year, btw

I thought Oduya played pretty good for the Hawks (granted now that he is in the Western Conference, I see a lot more of him now). Put it this way, I'd rather pay Oduya that type of money than Cory Sarich.

They seem hell bent on getting all their marginal at best players in tow.

First Carcillo then Mayers? Absolutely puzzling.

A tweet from Dreger:

Leafs sign Leo Komarov to 1 year deal. 4th line potential. Described as "Kaleta-like". Shift disturber.

A Hawks writer did bring up the following tidbit, puck. Between Oduya and Steve Montador, the Hawks are shelling out $6 million per season.

Yikes.
