This offseason I am intending on doing an ongoing poll rankings of all the expected starting QBs. Our previous poll had Aaron Rodgers winning by a landslide (22 Votes) over Manning (11) and Brady (10).

You don't need to be in it for the long haul, just vote when you can. The offseason is long and I will space it out. There will come a time where it doesn't matter so I will group, but we'll go as far as we can.

Question: Who is the second best QB in the league?

Here are the parameters:

This is just for this coming year. Age can matter as far as current abilities and experience, etc., but don't choose a young QB over Peyton Manning because so and so is younger and can offer more years. Just base it upon who they are now. If younger means better, sure. Otherwise, it's irrelevant.

Assume that each QB is in the optimal system with an equal level of talent around them and coaching. If the current QB of a team does not fit in their current system or on a bad team, imagine them in the right system and average team.

This time, I'm going to leave the options the same to see who wins between Manning and Brady. I was tempted to remove Brees because he got shutout, but I want to see if Brees is a number two QB in some eyes but not a number one is anyone's eyes. "Other" will still be there. Soon there will be more than 4 or 5 options.

Aw crap, that first one created a bit of a firestorm. Wonder how many more as you work through 30 more.

You are certainly free to conduct any sort of poll you like, but the format of only allowing 3-4 picks of your choosing per level kind of skews the data to your original views. If someone wanted to say Flacco was a top 3 they might be alone, but their opinion wouldn't be heard.

You are also going to get base population bias. That is, there are way more 49'er fans than Washington fans so any Kaep v RGIII is going to be skewed accordingly.

As long as you are fine with those results, carry on.

I'm trying to expand to the maximum 12 options but avoiding mass votes for fan bases like Kaepernick, Wilson, Flacco, etc. I tried to put who I thought would garner a lot of votes as objectively as possible - though everything is subjective. I'm definitely expanding the list for the third poll. I suppose one could believe either to be the second best QBs in the league, but it's not likely to be a common belief - BUT I don't know how many Niners fan or Seahawk fans or Washington fans there are, for that matter. So I was sticking with what traditional polls have for the first three, hoping that people will mark Other when they believe it so.

I do understand your point. I wanted a poll that people could place a number next to each QB. I would have waited for the draft to do that if that were an option. I would have done a point system, but I didn't know if I would get much participation, so I made it as easy as pressing a button.

Use the Other option if someone else but be sure to specify in thread. If there are four "others," the first four write-ins count. Etc. If there are 5 write ins but only 3 votes for others, than the first three count? I don't know, just try to keep it real and honest. I thought making the poll public would dissuade votes.

There were four Wilson votes last poll, as far as I can tell. Maybe one was Big Ben as someone mentioned him.

I'm curious why you would still include Brees in this poll when he never garnered even one vote in your first one? How did he make the cut to the second round?

****EDIT**** Nevermind. I see now it's for "second" best QB.

Instead of posting 30+ threads with the same poll to rank the QB's why not just ask everyone to rank the top 5-10 and you compile the results... Seems ridiculous that you are going to keep posting a new thread over and over again

Certainly would get to the point much faster, but no poll on a site like this will create any list that isn't heavily biased.

Did you all see the votes on the NFL.com site for greatest QB of all time? There were absolute fucking jokes on there that were clearly just fan bases voting up their guy instead of people honestly picking who they thought was the GOAT between each choice.

No matter whether you make polls or ask for lists and try to summarize them in some fashion, every one of these threads degenerates into some battle between trolls and fans that moves it off center. Kind of hard to compile useful information out of such chaff.

Seems to me no one really gives a fuck about QB rankings outside of the top 10 as it is. I mean does it matter how low you put the worst 10 in the league? Are all of them locks to still be starters next year anyway?

LOL. You have a good sense of humor. (Writing in Brees when he's a choice on the poll, when I expressed concern over knowing who the others were when one could vote and write in another.)

That's funny that you mentioned the NFL.com. That was the very reason why I didn't just list 12 multiple-choice options. I don't know if there are 10x as many Seahawks fans over other teams or 10 times more Niners fans, etc. I don't know the demographics. This way to start, I thought I could minimize homer votes (unless they truly feel it).

I was maybe going to ad lib for the second half of the league and shorten the time to vote. There are 136 days until the season, so there's no rush per se, but wanted to finish it in May sometime. I did say from the very beginning that they didn't need to be much participation. Just click a button. Also, if you can't make it, you don't have to vote every time. I knew there would be plenty of "30+ times?!" and "this is your list" comments.

We know all about bias. There's been a plethora of Hawks fans whining about Wilson. That alone proves the bias that exists. He's not top 5 and it's not even close. Is that my own bias or is your bias going to trump mine?

Of course that is your bias, just like Seattle fans would likely put Kaepernick at least 4-10 spots lower down the list than just average NFL fans because we think he is an ass clown.

You say Wilson isn't even close to the top 5, so I'm assuming you would also have him outside the top 10. What a shock. His stats over the first two years of his career plus winning it all in his second season would likely put him much higher than 10th on most non biased lists. What a shock, a Seahawks fan thinks higher of him than you do. :L

Much to the chagrin of Niners fans, I am putting Wilson as an option in the next poll. Haven't decided on Eli Manning yet. Probably will because he's won two. That outweighs his bad seasons. Plus, we do have 12 possible options on the poll. Yes, he will be on the next poll, but if you don't feel that he is third, don't vote for him.

My intention was to add SB winners next round - and SB runner ups the next and the AFC/NFC past runnerups. There might be some who screw that intention up - like Matt Stafford, Romo, Cutler, etc. They never really had much success in postseason and to leave them off for a long time would not likely be representative of how people feel.

Teams really do make the grade, not the quarterback. Some people have said that the defense won the Super Bowl this year, but when you win the Super Bowl, I can't leave you off the top ten without really good justification. If people feel that a Super Bowl winner does not deserve to be in the top 10, they can just continue not to vote for them.
