The Season So Far-week –Week 3
1st 4: Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma
2nd 4: Ohio State, LSU, Wisconsin, Auburn
3rd 4: Notre Dame, Penn State, Utah, Michigan
Analysis: No change at the top as most teams played pushovers this past week. Big changes are expected this week with at least 3 major clashes of top teams.
Playoff Teams: Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio State
Analysis: Clemson has the easiest schedule, but has looked shaky at times. Alabama has LSU and possibly Georgia in the SEC Championship. Oklahoma probably can afford a loss, but doubtful if Ohio State has the same luxury.
Most surprising: Wisconsin, Wake Forest, Virginia, Kansas St, California
Analysis: Wisconsin gets its big test this week against Michigan. If they want to challenge for a playoff spot, this is their chance. Wake and Virginia are keeping things interesting in the ACC as potential challengers to Clemson. Kansas State is a surprise, but with a tough schedule ahead, will have to improve to keep up with the Big 12 power teams. California continues to surprise after their win over Washington, but a tough schedule likely will catch up to them.
Most disappointing: UCLA, Miami, Tennessee, Florida State
Analysis: UCLA still doesn’t have a win and things will only get worse for them as the season progresses. Miami and Tennessee each won last week, but against inferior foes. Florida State continues to struggle whether they win or lose.
Heisman Trophy: Jalin Hurts, Tua T, Joe Burrow, Jonathan Taylor
Analysis: Players tend to get yanked when their team is way out in front. Therefore this should be a make or break week for Taylor. Jalin Hurts continues to put stellar numbers and remains the leader with Tua T, not far behind. Joe Burrow has been playing lights out the last two weeks and makes his debut in the top 4.
Big 3 Games of the Week. Notre Dame-Georgia, Michigan-Wisconsin, Auburn-Texas AM
Analysis: Blockbuster week of big clashes. Georgia at home, looks to be too deep for Notre Dame to come out of here with a win. 27-10 Georgia. Michigan has been stumbling and Wisconsin has yet to be scored upon. I like Wisconsin at home by 20-10. The closest game looks like Auburn and Texas AM. The home crowd in College Station will spur the Aggies to a very close win over Auburn. Should be about 24-23.
Big games in September and early October: Washington St-Utah, Notre Dame-Virginia, Auburn-Florida, Michigan-Florida, Alabama-Texas AM, Florida-LSU, Penn State-Iowa, Oklahoma-Texas,
Analysis: All the big contenders will have a big game that should determine their playoff chances. Big SEC games like Auburn-Florida and Alabama-Texas AM should sort out the teams at the top. Penn State and Iowa could establish Iowa as the team to beat in the Big 10 West, while Oklahoma and Texas look like the two best teams in the Big 12.
