Finally - the Bears will have a RB worthy of Sayers and Sweetness. ;)

Well, Gale Sayers never played in a playoff game, and going by what happened this season, neither has Hillman

RB's on the open market this year chose a bad year to be in FA in my opinion. There are so many starter quality guys hitting the market at the same time that all a team has to do is say go to Lamar Miller and say "I will pay you a 3-year $7.5 million deal." He says no then you just move on down the list till you find the guy who is willing to take the deal. We saw the Broncos do this just a couple of years ago when DRC scoffed at the Broncos offer thinking he could get more elsewhere and so they went to Talib with the same offer and signed him just hours after DRC turned it down. DRC then found the open market not quite as nice as he thought and tried to come back to the Broncos and they said "Sorry we moved on." This is a cruel business this time of year but that is what it takes to build a championship.

I honestly see the Broncos doing this eventually with Malik. They see that this draft is loaded with DT/DE talent (Mayock said with this year's draft you can get 1st round talent of other years in the 4th round because it is so loaded). They will also look at the FA market and say something similar of "Oh you don't want to stay with us for $11 million a year well how about we go to Nick Fairley and see if he wants to play for $7 million a year." Not quite the talent level of Malik but close enough that it is worth it to save the money and add depth to the team.

I think Malik will get top dollar. NFL teams are seeing the blueprint by Elway and others that you need that push up the middle to not only get pressure in the qb's face but to also give your edge rushers and db's advantages. Guys like Malik are the popular remedy to have a SB type D like Denver to compliment and utilize the rest of the talent you have. I have no doubt whatsoever that Malik is going get paid above that 55 mil deal and it won't be Denver. He's a hot commodity in NFL thought process right now. Kiss Malik goodbye. :)

What always amazes me is how much teams are so willing to overpay for players that were on the Super Bowl winning team. I know the idea is that they will bring that same type of attitude to the new locker room and shows guys what it takes but to me NFL Super Bowl winning teams don't let the true core guys go that really set the tone for the locker room unless they are much much older. I really do like Malik and hope he is back but I do view him as a complimentary piece not really the main piece. He will do well for whatever team he plays for but I do think he will find it much tougher wherever he goes to have the success that he did in Denver or that fans because of his huge contract will have unrealistic expectations. Such as he wants to be paid close to what JJ Watt is making from what I understand on a per year basis. Well Watt averages something like 15 sacks a season where Malik is more of a 5-7 sack kind of guy. Fans will see Watt's numbers and go "well we are paying our guy like Watt why isn't he producing like Watt?"

Another factor at play is the increased cap number. Obviously that means that premier FAs will be paid more. In the last two years, I believe, the cap has gone up about 20%.

I don`t think it has as much to do with the locker room Cd as it has to do with "results " and winning formula. Been hearing a lot lately when discussing Malik and Denver, that teams are viewing how Denver`s D was able to really dominate compared to almost every team and the consensus by all was the strength of their interior line. It set up the outside rush rush as well as helped the db`s. (That does not need further explanation) The top Qbs or any qb for that matter, hate to see someone in their face and not be able to step up in pocket. It`s the ultimate solution to throw qb`s off their game. There`s always a new "blue print " teams look at after every SB to see what was the reasons for the champs success. Von and company including Denver`s secondary would not have been near as successful if Denver`s interior line was`nt such a force to deal with. To me anyway, it`s very obvious and makes a hell of a lot of sense anyway. That`s what area teams are going to try and improve on in this draft and going forward. Anybody surprised of all the attention defensive interior line is getting in this draft? Don`t just say it`s such a deep class as the only reason as is being reported by many, it`s because supply and demand is going up ladies and gents and it`s the popular remedy for a SB defense.:)

Another thing to consider is who is around Malik. By no means am I calling him a scrub but what team that can afford to pay him JJ Watt money is going to have a Von, D Ware, Ray, Barrett, Sly...etc type front seven around him

That is why I say these players that leave for big bucks set them self up for getting cut and usually end regret it 2 or 3 years

This is what I was thinking about Malik Jackson. A big part of why he had such a great season was because there weren't any weak links around him. Don't get me wrong: Jackson wasn't a weak link either and contributed in a big way to Wolfe's awesome season and even Ware and Miller's. But a guy like Jackson isn't a "showpiece" on a DL. You can't exactly build a D-line around him. If he signs with a team that features other solid pass rushers he will likely be fine. If he is his new team's pass rush there is likely going to be a drop off in his production.

Well - well - well - isn't that the argument I was using with you in the Jackson/Oz value thread? ;)
