Who was your guy Shark?

You mean aside from keeping Kirk??

I was honestly hoping we would roll with Colt, Draft Payne or Vea in the first, take Rudolph in the second.

B ut Kirk was the best QB available to us... some folks just really didn't want him under any circumstances.

Who I don't begrudge is Kirk. Dude was miserable at his workplace for the last two+ years and showed up every day and studied and balled out. He was the complete professional. He could have pulled a Haynesworth. I saw him take big shots in the pocket. He was running for his life in Dallas. He risked a lot by playing on the tag. You can't call him selfish or greedy because he wasn't willing to sign over his football life to Dan and Bruce. I am happy for him and now I get to root against him. Unless Kirk winning it all next year is what finally gets Bruce fired and gets Dan to check his ego.

Disagree in part....I believe that his misery began once the 47 million was secured in his bank account. I think that qualifies as both smart and selfish.

I don't see it that way Stymietee. I said a while a go on this board. He saw what Champ Bailey saw. To win in Washington, you have to win in spite of the owner and GM, not because of them. He was not gonna do it.

fair enough!, but for the record, let it be known that I know, humans to be complicated in the way that they process things. Unlike some here I don't merely consider issues in either/or terms. That said, Kirk, if he has a choice, may very well consider everything that's being written as well as other factors, such as schools, the housing market, weather conditions, etc. before making the call. A move like this is never made because of best chances to win only, even a SB. This is especially true when there's family and futures at stake.

The fleecing had nothing to do with what we got in exchange of QB's. The fleecing came with the addition of our slot corner in the deal.

BTW: regarding that bus driver reference, are you calling Kirk a bus driver too? It seems that in the exchange of QB we've either broke even or gotten a slightly better driver. The differences basically come down to one who checks down and takes whatever that yields or one who throws incompletions or worse interceptions in the same circumstance. Fuckin' bus drivers huh? :D

The difference between Smith and Cousins (aside from age)

Smith... usually had a lead when he was throwing check downs. Thus he could afford to play it safe.

Cousins.. .was usually playing from behind.

Its going to be VERY interesting to see how Smith does when trying to carry the team.

I agree. Kirk never felt respected and never felt this franchise truly believed in him. That besides winning and dysfunction was as big a part or bigger part in all this.

I want to say something about the age differences, and, I aim this towards no one in particular. The age difference conversation is not a new one for Washington fans. There's not one thing about this as is currently written and posted here that was not said before. In as much as I dislike invoking my age as an advantage in these matters, the same kind of shit was being said in the Sonny Jurgensen acquisition. Sonny was 5 years the senior of Snead and it worked out for us, so despite the "different times" argument that I'm sure will be used here, the debunked basis for that argument remains the same. #Sonny > Snead..... Smith > Cousins? TBD. Stay tuned!!

We will find out in short order if Smith is a better QB. I exect Smith to have a better roster to work with than Kirk had.

So once again I will say, if this team does not either

1. Get a Wild card and win a playoffs game
2. Win the Division outright and win a playoffs game

Then the whole Smith is a better QB thing goes straight down an Indian toilet with no water to flush.

That's fine from your perspective, the bar for me is anything better, and definitely not worse than, 9-7...8-7-1 and 7-9. In fact, statistically, this team is due to post a double digit win total in the upcoming season. Unfortunately, beyond that, we'll fall back into mediocrity or worse. It's just the way it is for this franchise because like it or not, there are no Kent-Cook's, Gibbs, Beathard's and supporting casts, on the horizon.

Personally, I refuse to do anything to myself, other than face that reality,

I won't compare Alex to Kirk next year. I have no illusions that Kirk at his best is better than Alex at his best. No way Alex throws for 4,000 yds with Grant, Thompson, Davis, and Crowder. No way.

I will be comparing Alex to what Colt would have done, what Bridgewater, Taylor, Bradford are doing, and to a lesser extent Mayfield and/or Allen if one or both of them are there at 13 and we pass.

redskins were in no position to do anything but get fleeced by the way they handled KC.

Smith may be the best QB in the league at completing third down passes, two yards short of a first down, should be fun.

I don’t believe we got fleeced, and I totally hate the trade. The trade was fair. A good QB (if you have a good run game and great defense) for a third round pick and a good young player. The problem with the trade is Alex Smith is not coming to a team with any run game and a shit defense. So to make things worse, we five up a good young player that could make our defense better. It is a horrible fit.

Plus with the way athletes are training and keeping in shape, as well as eating and taking care of themselves the age issue is somewhat moot. And one distinct advantage SAmith has over Kirk is in running ability.

I agree with this ^^^^^^ sentiment. Not only do Snyder and Allen have their heads up their asses. They actually think they know what the hell they're doing. Its why we'll never get established coaches to come to DC, but instead just coaches looking to get their foot in a certain door.

The age thing is relative.
