Commercials is why it takes so long. Between 1950 and 1980 the average time increased 17 minutes. Another 34 years and it jumped 30 more minutes. So that's 47 minutes per games (about 33% of 1950 game time) since baseball was put on TV, and 30 minutes since the only point of it all was to increasingly maximize profits.

The owners will never take a serious stand on commercials though. That is how they make most if their money.

Maybe if they just cancel the games themselves, and just schedule 60 mins of commercials the owners would be happy...

No one has said it so let me be the first.

Leave the game alone. Completely.

If the AL wants to further bastardize the game, fine. But keep the NL pure, please.

No, it is the interminable delays between each pitch while the batter steps out and re-adjusts his gloves and helmet and the pitcher wanders off the mound to rub the baseball. This happens before every pitch. That is what is killing the game.

It can't come too soon.... and do commercials really slow the game that much ? They have a couple of minutes between half innings in addition to pitching changes. That's a few more minutes a piece. Those are natural game stoppages. I've never really noticed them much when attending a baseball game... unlike football where they really screw with the experience.

They are working on that too...

They'll try to make pitchers end their between-innings warmups 30 seconds before the commercials are done... As soon as the commercials finish, the game will continue.

If you are on defense, you hate it when your own pitcher screws around for 30 seconds.
Hitters are the problem, with their Velcro batting gloves that need to be adjusted every time a pitch is thrown.
