I can think of $22M reasons why Penix wont be majorly upset being picked to sit for a year, or two or even three.

Add in the reality that if Kirk is designated a post june 1st cut in 2025, effectively the falcons GAIN cap space to the tune of $22 million. At which point its just money at that point.

Penix, not Kirk should be the one who's incensed!! He's the #8 overall selection in the entire draft and the plan is to sit him for at least 2 years. (3 if all goes well with Kirk) Of course, the rookie money is fine, but lots of these guys aren't just playing for the money, they are alpha dogs and want to be acknowledged as the best at their craft and immortalized in NFL lore. BTW; I can think of second contract possibilities that make his rookie $22M seem paltry. Here are a few examples.

Joe Burrow$275,000,000$55,000,000
Justin Herbert$262,500,000$52,500,000
Lamar Jackson$260,000,000$52,000,000
Jalen Hurts$255,000,000$51,000,000
Kyler Murray$230,500,000$46,100,000

To a degree they did them both a little Dirty. But Im not going to overly pine for someone who is going to make $5M as a rookie to learn on the job.

Its not much different than the Rogers in Green Bay, or Love after him situation. Aside from Penix being a couple of years older than your average rookie. He is coming in, will get to sit and learn for hopefully a season or two, in 2026 Atlanta can either cut ties with Kirk, or have a very expensive backup.

If Penix cant become the starter after two years on the bench, then the most they lost was an 8th overall pick. My honest take, if Kirk doesnt get them deep into the playoffs, the Falcons can cut ties with him after June 1 next year and aside from a very expensive year, no harm no foul. Now if Kirk does well, then yea, Penix got the Penis
So, considering your standard (deep playoff run) and Kirk's playoff history Atlanta will be cutting ties with him after June 1st next year! :pound:

maybe in a trade down not with a high 2nd
After seeing both McCarthy and Nix go in the first round, don't be surprised if these teams continue to reach for players.

Kind of expect the 7th to be spent on one. They brought in Slovis and Milton might be there.
