Week 1 was the perfect football weekend. The Broncos won and all those other AFC West a$$hats lost. That is perfection by any definition! But it gets better. Consider:
The Raiders open their home slate against the Houston Texans. The Texans will be sans Clowney, but they still have a pretty stout defense and should be able to keep the rookie-led Raiders under control. This game is certainly not a lock for either team, but I am inclined to favor the Texans here in a low scoring affair. The Raiders defense still has a lot of question marks and the team as a whole has more gelling to do before they look ready to compete, even against a Texans team coming off a 2-14 season. Texans 16, Raiders 13.
The Chargers get the Seahawks in their home opener. Now I have never in my life witnessed a fanbase who puts so much stock into a preseason game (unless it's a loss of course) the way Seahawks fans do. I'm not sure if a lot them are new to football or what, but the last few years I've seen them celebrate preseason wins as though they were postseason wins. With that said, I am not taking the 41-14 drubbing over the Chargers into consideration at all when I consider this game. However, I do think the Seahawks are a better team than the Chargers and it will show. The Chargers seemed pretty evenly matched against the Cards and the score refected that. They are not evenly matched against the Seahawks and the score will reflect once again. Seahawks 34, Chargers 24.
That brings us to the first AFC West showdown of this young season, the Broncos vs the Chiefs. I watched a good portion of the Chiefs-Titans game and Kansas City looked asleep at the wheel. For all the excitement surrounding Andy Reid, I suspect the Chiefs under Reid have already hit their high water mark. That may be a bit premature, but we'll see over time. Meanwhile the Chiefs went out and signed Vickerson, he of former Broncos fame. It's a good football move for them short term and long term, though I doubt it'll provide the Chiefs the boost they need to beat these Broncos this week. Broncos in a blowout. Broncos 34, Chiefs 10.
That'll wrap up two perfect football weekends for the Broncos. Glad the real season is finally here!
Go Broncos!
