If you’re the Bama coaches, Why would you not take a good hard look at what USC did since they were the only team to beat the Huskys this season. To everyone who saw the game, it was in pretty convincing fashion so you’d be dumb to not at least try the same thing. Now Bama looks at that film and thinks heck, our D linemen and linebackers are even bigger and faster than USCs . So while they might have different ways to get at the QB you can bet they have a plan to do that and also have an idea of where Browning will go with the ball. That’s what Adoree did. He knew Browning was getting pressured and baited a throw and picked it off (two in fact).

So either Washington can hold Bamas line from penetrating, giving Browning time and opening up holes. If that’s the case it’s a ballgame. Or the Huskys will be in self preservation mode with getting the ball out super quick and lots of misdirection and try not to make mistakes and give the ball up on turnovers. The first quarter well tell us a lot.

Nice article on E$pn about Washington RS Soph Jojo McIntosh. Saw him play at Chaminade against my old HS team on their way to the state title in 2013.

SEATTLE -- Even when Washington coaches were recruiting JoJo McIntosh as a 170-pound, string-bean safety out of Chaminade Prep, there was one unmistakable quality they saw on film: He could hit.

Smallish but mighty, McIntosh was the guy who brought quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers (sometimes a lineman or two en route) to the ground. He was a play killer for opponents and an ultimate weapon for Chaminade.

"Even though he was a skinny," Chaminade coach Ed Corson said, "he could still bring the wood."

Three years later -- and after a bit of bulking up -- that hasn't changed a bit. McIntosh is known among the defense as the Huskies' hardest hitter. With Washington's reliance on rugby-style tackling, it has given him an opportunity to use more leverage in his hits, making them even bigger drive killers.

Keishawn Bierria, it was the Cal game this year. For safety Budda Baker, it's constantly but most memorably last season against Utah. For cornerback Sidney Jones, it was Arizona and Utah State a season ago. For cornerback Kevin King, it's any time his fingers get jammed or wedged.

It has happened so much that the team has turned McIntosh's nickname into a verb.

"You were friendly fired?" they might ask when they see a player getting a finger taped or a shoulder looked at. "I got friendly fired last weekend."
"Ultimately, it's a good thing," Baker said, explaining that an extra bruise is worth it if it means McIntosh is on his team.

The coaches aren't going to stop McIntosh any time soon.

"It's exactly the way you want him to play," co-defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake said. "He's really the enforcer back there. I tell guys all the time, if they have the ball and he's coming downhill, they better get on the ground quick."

McIntosh has 59 tackles this season, but there isn't a stat to define exactly how many of those were "cap-offs," or the final hit that brought a scrum to the ground and ended a play. Lake estimates that McIntosh leads the team in that category, but as long as the job gets done, no one on the Huskies' defense is too worried about who gets the credit.

The Huskies will face their toughest challenge of the season in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Alabama freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts has led an offense that has taken care of the ball well this season. The Crimson Tide have turned the ball over only 19 times this season, but they'll face McIntosh and a secondary that has accounted for 26 of the Huskies' Power 5-best 33 turnovers.

Getting the job done against No. 1 Alabama is going to require every player on the Washington defense to step up.

"I won't tell him to slow down," Bierria said. "Friendly fire, it's just a part of the game."

But Bierria does have one request for McIntosh on New Year's Eve: "Just make sure you hit the right person."

I think Oregon should be looking at a bowl next year. The schedule sets up alright with 2 after thought in the nonconference and Nebraska at home with a new QB. Oregon at least played 2 north teams close this season. the other 3 not sure on the exact ups and downs but as we saw with Utah one year to the next can change drastically. South teams Oregon misses USC and Colorado could be 3 or 4 wins from that side with the teams they play being the 4 bottom teams. 9 would be the cap and likely an over reach (including a bowl win) 7 or 8 is more likely.

I think so as well. We had a lot of freshman playing and upper classmen injured. Add to it, Freeman returns and we have a QB. I expect the coaching to be better. I could see 6-8 wins.

One thing Browning does really well is throw to the receiver before he makes his break. Makes those passes nearly impossible to intercept. If can manage to get set and make those throws before the 'Bama defense swallows him, then they may be able to move the ball.

yeah thats something that Browning has shown he can do and the WRs of Washington have good hands so maybe they use the quick pass as a run and maybe that slows the pass rush which in turn enables the run game to keep them honest. It's not impossible.

Worst game Browning had? He wasn't too good in the conference title game- 9/24 118 yards. Think that gets it done against 'Bama?
Why did Browning have to have a good game against Colorado? Hell the Huskies had 265 yards rushings, why would Browning need better stats in the PAC 12 CG? Believe me, if the Huskies can run the ball for 265 yards against Bama, then Browning won't need a big game.

If you think the Huskies can run for even 150 yards against Alabama, then I'm thinking you need to try different street drugs.

Who says they can't though? Alabama is my mythed as this unstoppable team but have only played one semi decent QB who could only start for Oregon State in Kelly from Ole Miss and he torched that all world defense. Alabama has yet to play a balanced offense, I hate saying UW has a chance but since the weather won't be an issue, which IMO is the reason Browning looked like garbage against $C, us and Colorado they should be able to do as well as Ole Miss who realistically doesn't have one position player on offense that would start on UW over a starter at the same spot.

lol, I know I said it a few posts after yours, but it wasn't directed right at you, just the whole PC thing in general. I'm not a Christian either, but Christmas as a holiday exists whether or not I believe in any teachings around where it came from. It was long ago claimed by corporate greed and excess and turned into a non secular money maker. It isn't required to have any care over the religious component to wish someone a Merry Christmas IMO. You get the intent either way.

UW had an up and down year running the ball. Monster days against a couple of decent defenses and all but missing in others. If there is anything they will take away from the film this year it's simply key on the run and make Jake move off his mark. It will be their focus.

I would expect both teams to not do a lot of risky things and both will be content with punting and waiting for their moments to shine. UW should be pushing the run game quite a bit in such a game plan. They were the only team in the Pac not to have a rushing fumble. At least they have that going for them. I'll still be surprised if they break 100y rushing.

Alabama sports probably the best front 7 in Saban's tenure at Bama. While Huskies bring one of the best offenses in the nation, the Bama defense is #1 is about every meaningful defensive category there is to rank such things.

About every starter and 2nd stringer on the Bama roster was one of the best recruits at their position in the country coming out of high school. Your basically facing a team with 10+ NFL starters on it. They always pull in top5 classes. And it's one of those years where all the starts aligned on defense.

I'm hoping for a competitive game and doesn't become a blowout by the 2nd quarter. The Huskies have a shot because Bama hasn't played an offense like the Huskies present. They aren't built for it. Their built for tSEC offenses. But I'm a realist about this situation. There is a good reason bama has been favored by 14 to 17 points by the books. That defense will still kill us given the op.

I've got supreme confidence in Petersen and he's got a great history in these types of games when he's got a month or more to game plan for it. But Bama's defense this year is ridiculous and the odds of Huskies finding ways to score points against it are.......well....not so hot. All I want is a good game that isn't an early blowout.
