I think we can clearly see now that it doesn't work. Because every year a team that is good with the same players regresses, adding this major piece does not make the team better. But everyone falls for it every offseason. I wasn't nut-hugging the Browns as much as others. But I was certainly misled on the Jets. And I won't quote a poster. But he said the Bills did nothing on offense this offseason when I wasn't clear I was talking about the Jets adding talent. Well, okay then. Turns out Buffalo adding two decent pieces was better than the Jets adding one overrated piece who plays the same position as Cole Beasley but just had more targets before this season. What was so special about Jameson Crowder? Had it not been for fantasy football, no one would think he was good.
I admit I was wrong on the Jets. I also admit I was wrong to join the Cleveland hype ultimately. The team that actually did improve based on collective additions and not going all out on superstars was the 49ers (I mean they added a couple but loaded up on adding small pieces. The Saints did it in 2017, 2018, and in their SB 2009 year. The Patriots also did it this year and look how they are doing. The Packers have done it.
One other thing is on the Giants. They took a hit on defense losing what they lost, and that does not mean that had they kept the other pieces and just lost Vernon they would be as bad on defense. One player does not make a defense. The Giants fell apart defensively because of losing a lot of pieces. However, their o-line is still a problem. That didn't get fixed with just one signing. Keeping Vernon or the defense intact would have made no difference to start. Though with Jones, it might have helped. ODB same issue.
What we saw that has translated into this season. The Pats, Bills, and 49ers added several pieces. The Giants lost several pieces and didn't add enough. the Raiders, Browns, and Jets added a few big pieces. We can see the results. Next offseason, a lot of other teams will be following this path because the teams that made the "splashes" are way too magnified and it's a copycat league.
I considered that, but Fat Fingered makes more sense.I don't know howlong it was. I did not read because it was TOO MUCH!
Yes it does. You just have to be smart about it like with trades, draft picks or smaller FAs.
Justin Houston: great signing for the Colts.
Preston Smith: ditto
Za'Darius Smith, Earl Thomas, Kwon Alexander (before the injury), etc.
And there are others who were busts, just like anything else. You just have to be smart about it.
So sanders wont help the niners Who knew?
boys getting cooper dumb move
bears getting mack another dumb move
bears drafting trubs ding ding ding we have a winner
I considered that, but Fat Fingered makes more sense.

This ain't Tinder, son.
I'm too old to know what tinder is millenial.
And I'm certainly not your son. I could be your father if I had really bad taste.....
Match birth certificates?
Be careful who you call millennial, boomer. Why would I?
Very few on this site as old as I amWhy would I?
Are you speaking rhetorically? Or are you tyrying to find out if I'm your father.
Relax, I did not know the woman.....
You are missing my whole damn point and you clearly didn't read about SF. Dallas? They play in the worst division in football. If you have some talnt it's easy to win in that division. Dallas actually does not have more than one win outside the division and guess who that one win is? The Dolphins
I never said teams could not add big names but if that's all they are doing like the Jets and Browns did, it's not going to work because individual players do not play at a high level every year. But adding pieces to a team in multiples does tend to pay off.
The Browns added OBJ, Landry and a few others. They aren't doing much better. But usually teams "add" players to win for that year, not in the future.
Did you start this thread to bash the Jets or something else?
The Bears defense did build through the draft but that took time. They got players in free agency too like Hicks. Khalil Mack was added after all those other players were and right before the season starts. That Bears defense isn't looking so good this year compared to last year. That's because teams were able to study film on Mack that they didn't get to last year.
