I didn't think there was any way we would give Colby more than a year.

I'm surprised that (A) he didn't get more money, and (B) he didn't get at least some type of nominal player option for 2017.

Gotta tell ya, you had this one nailed from day one, and I missed pretty badly. Not Cruz badly, but pretty bad none-the-less. ha

Mendez is gone and I don't think Sadzeck will be ready anytime soon. I hope Scheppers is nothing more than a AAA fallback.

I also think Nick will be a starter either here or at Round Rock.

I forgot about Mendez, but it seemed like there was some "speculation" about Martinez or Gonzalez being a long man. And I can't imagine they'd put Chi-Chi in this position.

I think both of those guys are too valuable to be used in long relief. They need them for starting depth and need to keep them stretched out. If they could have gotten Tepesch back then he might have fit that role. They could also always go with the "use several guys for one or two innings" idea for the long relief role as well.

Sentimentally. Very fired up to get him back for a year. He will eat innings and may go later in a game than we expect. Got to think knee will not be an issue. Hoping my excitement does not obscure objectivity remembering he did not start against Jays

Yeah, but his 2015 was a lot stronger than his 2014.
Only due to his injury that he was coming back from. And he had proven well before the end of 2014 that he had recovered from that injury. I think he pitched better late in 2014 than he did overall in 2015. To me I felt better about him as a starter this time last year than I do now.

I'm the opposite. I was ready to go 2/16 on him without a second thought.

Reading that the Orioles and Astros are the most aggressive suitors for Gallardo. Personally, it seems to me pitching in Minute Maid will get him lit up, but more power to ya, YoGa.

My point was that when you feel comfortable using 5 or 6 different guys late in a game then you will be able to rotate them in and not always have to use the same guys. A deep bullpen does allow you the luxury of using your starters less than you would have to otherwise.

i understand where you are coming from but you don't want your pen having to pitch 275+ innings a year

If they are overtaxed again we'll lose some of these guys along the way.

I'm hopeful we'll see a more robust year from both Perez and Holland which should give us more starter innings than 2015.

One thing I was thinking of was how we had to overuse Kela because we couldn't trust others in the pen. I think some guys were underutilized at crucial times because they weren't trusted. Now guys like Kela can get a break while other guys pitch.

so the Rangers give another shot to Matt Bush, the flameout alcoholic who almost killed a guy. Not thrilled with that.

I'm very conflicted in situations like this.

On one hand, this young man made mistake, after mistake, after mistake, and he's probably fortunate that something worse - worse than the horrible thing which did happen - didn't happen.

On the other hand, I hate the thought of throwing someone on the trash heap, especially at such a young age, if they have taken positive steps, and truly WANT to redeem themselves.

We, as a nation tend to give people 2nd (3rd, 4th, etc with talent, granted) chances. But our own scout, Roy Silver, apparently was the reason behind this signing.

I don't know Eph.....honestly, just don't know.
