JD updated Yu's status at the Winter Meetings. On track for May, with the understanding that he will not be in full Darvish Mode upon return.

Nothing stated, but no reason to think they don't go to ST with the mindset that Tolleson is the closer.

Few return, if any, to full potential after TJS. Been hoping Holland has been working getting himself back on track and Perez as well.

Don't know. Good man....good poster. Found his FB page but no activity since summer.

Hmm odd, I was looking forward to paying his and his wife's airfare to the Bahamas or wherever it was, if the Rangers won the WS.

Is it my imagination or is this off season discussion topics extremely slow. Hasn't been much said in regards to Yu's progression for example. Who will be our closer? Do we need a closer or can one or more relievers step in?

Could be some posters are gone from the board i.e. Terps /Winding or maybe I'm bored.
I believe I read a few days ago that Tolleson was still the closer.

In principal and unless they trade him. Funny but I think Banny will fully adopt using his most effective relievers in the high leverage situations

I think they feel they have a tradable piece or 2, in the BP in arms and wouldn't be surprised if 1 or 2 were moved, if they get the return they are looking for. Not sure what they would have to get for them to move someone however. Anyway, I'm glad to see that as a position of strength vs how we looked going into last year, counting on the young arms, that still needed grooming.

And why not? Never knew why one man was needed to pitch one inning. The best man at the time makes better sense.

At this point I wouldn't mind going into the season with our bullpen like it is. That way if another team is desperate for a bullpen piece at the deadline we can get an even better deal done. It would be nice going into the beginning of the season knowing that all our starters had to do was give us 5 plus innings and we wouldn't even wear the bullpen out because we could rotate them in. That would be especially valuable starting in May when Yu comes back. If he only gives us 5 innings the first 3 times out that wouldn't kill us because of our bullpen depth. Now, if some GM wants to blow us away with a deal for one of our bullpen arms now then I certainly wouldn't object, but I am content with not trading one now.

I agree. I like a manager to have flexibility in the roles of the bullpen pieces. I also like flexibility in the lineup.

Are any of you planning on attending the Newberg Report Book Release Party next Tuesday evening. It is at the Bedford Ice House. The following is the information that he has given so far about it.

On Tuesday, December 22, we will host the Newberg Report Book Release Party at Bedford Ice House, at 2250 Airport Freeway, Bedford, Texas 76022. We will get rolling at either 5:30 or 6:00 p.m.

As always, we will collect toys and books (new and unwrapped, please) to support the Rangers Foundation’s Cowboy Santas Toy Drive effort.

Rangers manager Jeff Banister will attend to sign autographs. We hope to have other Rangers guests on hand as well; stay tuned for added details.

Jared Sandler (pre/postgame host for the Rangers Radio Network) and his 105.3 The Fan buds Ben Rogers and Jeff “Skin” Wade (of the Ben and Skin Show) will emcee the event, which will include fan Q&A with our guests.

Bedford Ice House is an awesome new family-friendly, non-smoking venue with a large main room plus a huge patio – with a forecast that day calling for a high of 72 degrees.

Admission is free.

Your kids will be on Winter Break.

The food there is all made from scratch, and there’s plenty to wash it down with.

You can get books autographed by Rangers folks for yourself and to give as awesomely unique holiday gifts. (I’ll have not only the 2016 Bound Edition on hand but also plenty copies of the 2011 and 2012 Bound Editions, covering the Rangers’ two World Series seasons.)

even a good pen wears down fast when the starters aren't giving you 6+ innings

If no one gets traded outta the BP, then I look at Diekman, Dyson, Kela, Tolleson, Wilhelmsen, and probably Martinez (long man/spot starter). That's 6.

Then depending on how deep we need/want to go, we'll have Jackson, Barnette, Faulkner, Freeman, Jackson, Mendez, Sadzeck and.....heaven forbid, Scheppers, in reserve, or to fill out the roster.

I didn't think there was any way we would give Colby more than a year.

Mendez is gone and I don't think Sadzeck will be ready anytime soon. I hope Scheppers is nothing more than a AAA fallback.

I also think Nick will be a starter either here or at Round Rock.

My point was that when you feel comfortable using 5 or 6 different guys late in a game then you will be able to rotate them in and not always have to use the same guys. A deep bullpen does allow you the luxury of using your starters less than you would have to otherwise.
