JD updated Yu's status at the Winter Meetings. On track for May, with the understanding that he will not be in full Darvish Mode upon return.
Nothing stated, but no reason to think they don't go to ST with the mindset that Tolleson is the closer.

I believe I read a few days ago that Tolleson was still the closer. Is it my imagination or is this off season discussion topics extremely slow. Hasn't been much said in regards to Yu's progression for example. Who will be our closer? Do we need a closer or can one or more relievers step in?
Could be some posters are gone from the board i.e. Terps /Winding or maybe I'm bored.

In principal and unless they trade him. Funny but I think Banny will fully adopt using his most effective relievers in the high leverage situations
also heard Kela and Wilhelmsen mentioned as possible closers

I agree. I like a manager to have flexibility in the roles of the bullpen pieces. I also like flexibility in the lineup. And why not? Never knew why one man was needed to pitch one inning. The best man at the time makes better sense.
Dyson was the hot name at the end of last season too.
At this point I wouldn't mind going into the season with our bullpen like it is. That way if another team is desperate for a bullpen piece at the deadline we can get an even better deal done. It would be nice going into the beginning of the season knowing that all our starters had to do was give us 5 plus innings and we wouldn't even wear the bullpen out because we could rotate them in. That would be especially valuable starting in May when Yu comes back. If he only gives us 5 innings the first 3 times out that wouldn't kill us because of our bullpen depth. Now, if some GM wants to blow us away with a deal for one of our bullpen arms now then I certainly wouldn't object, but I am content with not trading one now.
Rangers manager Jeff Banister will attend to sign autographs.
even a good pen wears down fast when the starters aren't giving you 6+ innings
Mendez is gone and I don't think Sadzeck will be ready anytime soon. I hope Scheppers is nothing more than a AAA fallback. If no one gets traded outta the BP, then I look at Diekman, Dyson, Kela, Tolleson, Wilhelmsen, and probably Martinez (long man/spot starter). That's 6.
Then depending on how deep we need/want to go, we'll have Jackson, Barnette, Faulkner, Freeman, Jackson, Mendez, Sadzeck and.....heaven forbid, Scheppers, in reserve, or to fill out the roster.
My point was that when you feel comfortable using 5 or 6 different guys late in a game then you will be able to rotate them in and not always have to use the same guys. A deep bullpen does allow you the luxury of using your starters less than you would have to otherwise.even a good pen wears down fast when the starters aren't giving you 6+ innings
