I know this isn't a word, but it's unprocessable.
Baseball has gone mad. Honestly, the Price and Grienke signings make a lot more sense than this one or the Samardzija deal. And they make no sense to begin with.
Better to trade a year too early than a year too late to me. The money part would require the Rangers to rethink their budget which I think they should do anyway, but I will not hold my breath. What I think they should do and what I expect are very different.I'd roll the dice with Mitch and his $6 mil for one year, rather than sign hot/cold Davis for $15-20 mil per for 3+ years.
And how are going to move forward by trading a guy like Choo and having to eat a boat load of money?
In Choo, I think we'd be trading him a year too early. If he hits the average of his 1st half vs his 2nd half last year, his value will ratchet up, if we decided to shop him.
When enough teams overspend that becomes the cost of doing business. At some point our ownership will have to realize that. We cannot be far from that point.I know this isn't a word, but it's unprocessable.

Eventually don't you think we are going to need a good long term option at 1B? Hot and cold would be an improvement over a lot of years we have had at 1B in the past several years.I'd roll the dice with Mitch and his $6 mil for one year, rather than sign hot/cold Davis for $15-20 mil per for 3+ years.

I think Davis gets between $20-23 million per year for 5 years. Maybe 6 years. I think after what we save on Prince the net cost would be about $10-11 million per year. For me, it wouldn't be a year too late. I'm looking for Choo to have a very productive season, both offensively & defensively.
I honestly believe the 1st half of last year was the outlier, and he's back to being a decent fielder, nothing more or less, but a very serviceable bat.
And how much and for how long you think Davis is asking for?
Granted, my recollection is fuzzy, but this seems like a pretty wild-ass first day of the Winter meetings.

I think that is a big reason our offense has struggled when it has since the WS years and before the WS years since Teixeira left. It is such an important power position that it hurts a team not to be strong there. Davis and Moreland have given us 2 maybe part of 3 good years there since Teixeira was traded away. Napoli helped out as well. Other than those few years we have struggled offensively at 1B and that has led to some offensive struggles for the team at itmes.No.....it's the most interchangeable, temp position in the IF.
Would it be nice? Sure. Necessary? Not really.
