Well, I had the inconsistency of Mitch Moreland in mind when I asked my question previously. I think it would depend on which bat Banny thinks the most of. Does he want Hamilton's bat in the game or Mitch's?
For some reason they were reversed by a good margin in 2015. He only batted .191 against lefties in 2015.Thanks.....his SLG and OPS are substantially better against lefties. Sure you noticed.
Who said we needed to be reasonable? lolWell, if we're talking about hypothetically signing Upton to a 1-year deal...
It would depend on where Mitch is at offensively compared to Hamilton, and whether or not there is enough of a chasm there that you'd take Mitch out of the lineup and lose the defensive benefit over Fielder. But that depends on two "what-if's", so I'm not sure how reasonable it is to really speak on it.
I think Romeo is probably right though. If they were going to do that they might very well consider trading Mitch.Well, if we're talking about hypothetically signing Upton to a 1-year deal...

Not sure if/how that would work. If they couldn't move him before now, not sure how later would happen.
Acquiring upton on a one year deal would alter those dynamics.
I got the idea that they really didn't attempt to move him up to this point. Not sure if/how that would work. If they couldn't move him before now, not sure how later would happen.

His name has probably come up, but I am not sure that the Rangers were doing the pursuing. Kind of like the Chi Chi for Ozuna chatter. There was lots of chatter about the Pirates at one point.

I thought that myself early on, but the more I thought on it the more I realized that taking Moreland out of the lineup without adding anyone would leave too big of a hole. I soon began to doubt that we would trade him. Upton coming aboard would change all of that. Before they were probably limited to trading him for someone who could help us win in 2016 if at all. In this scenario they could trade him for upper level starting pitching depth that we need or some other prospect. Although, I am not saying that if by some chance they signed Upton that I would be certain that they would trade Moreland. I just think it increases the chances from somewhere close to 0% up to about 50% or a little more.Maybe, although it was pointed out that after this season, Moreland's value has never been higher. So if there were ever a time to move him, it would be this current offseason.

I am not sure what kind of a starting pitching prospect you thought I had in mind, but it certainly isn't in the Martin Perez category of a few years back. I know we wouldn't get anyone's top pitching prospect or even close. We got Thompson for not a whole lot a couple of years ago. I would even take a lower level non pitching prospect if he had more upside. JD has been pretty good at getting a good return on similar trades.I think you're significantly overrating Moreland as a trade piece. And I'm a huge Moreland fan.
