i don't want us to spend like them just for JD to have the ability to recognize a need and for him to be able to address it. we went thru that with Hicks and now it seems the owners are taking a Hicks-type approach to running the team

Basically you want to have your cake and eat it too. But it doesn't work like that.

what??? no i want JD to be able to go after a need when it exist. right now he can not do that. he has to penny-pinch and go after what are lesser value players with the books of green stamps the owners have given him

There were three kinds of stamps given back in the 50's through the 70's. Green stamps were the most popular and were given by Worth Food Mart which later became Piggly Wiggly. I remember green stamps being given into the '80's as well. Wyatt's, which became Krogers gave a gold or yellow colored stamp called "top value" stamps. Buddies Grocery gave Scotties. Many drugs stores and gas stations also gave the stamps. Stripling's did not give Scotties stamps but they were the distribution outlet. Each book was worth $2.50.

you may be right or they don't pan out who knows
I know what you are saying, but actually it isn't an either/or situation. They may or may not pan out, but I think they have to give them a shot to do so. The time to give them a shot is too close to spend money on those positions now. It is like when Kinsler was very close to being ready to come up it wouldn't have made sense to sign a 2B free agent. The same was true in that when it was close to being time to bring Elvis up it didn't make sense to go out and spend money on a free agent SS. So even if they don't pan out eventually you should give them the chance.

I remember the green and scottie stamps, but not the other one. My mom once used green stamps to buy me a Texas Rangers baseball glove. I loved that glove so Green Stamps are close to my heart.

Those S&H green stamps are one of a few memories from my childhood, as my memory isn't what it once was. I remember my mom having me lick those stamps and stick them to the little book. I don't recall anything we ever got with them though. I think she just filled up a drawer with em and thats where they stayed, but its foggy at best now. If I asked her she would remember.

fond memory to recall about your mom, no doubt

they cleared a spot for Kinsler by unloading Alfonso Soriano and moving Young to SS. they cleared the spot for Elvis by moving Young to 3rd
