I know what you mean. We do seem stuck at a certain level. It is a higher level than we were stuck at with Hicks though. Of course, with him being bankrupt the situations are very different.

I often read some who try to explain away our budget situation by comparing how much more we spend now than with Hicks. That doesn't make me feel a whole lot better when you realize Hicks was bankrupt and we have had 2 major improvements in the revenue streams since Hicks left. When I read articles by our local media they usually fail to mention those things.

this is exactly my feelings

I never even consider the spending of the Dodgers or the Yankees as something to aspire to. I don't even think we have to be in the top 5, but I do think we should be within striking distance of those clubs in the 4 and 5 spots. Last year we spent $30 million less than the club ranked 5th in spending. If that club doesn't go bankrupt soon then we should have been a lot closer to them than that in my opinion. If that is the best we can do then there is something major wrong with either our other expenditures or with our revenue streams.

same here i don't want the Rangers to spend like them but i do think that when an asset is available that would help your team move to the next level you make the move. however we seem to be stuck in neutral not wanting to move to that level

Funny guess Saddles and budget don't belong together
Haha.

Actually, budget talk doesn't scare me away at all. Positive or negative talk.

Some folks seem very uneasy with the subject. Most don't mind discussing it though.

Well I guess they had $20 million to spend on the posting fee and had to have a RH'er huh?

Dodgers agree to deal with Japanese pitcher Kenta Maeda

The Dodgers have added two starting pitchers in the last two days, as they have landed Japanese import Kenta Maeda, per Jon Heyman. Details of Maeda's agreement aren't yet known.

Maeda was still under contract with the Hiroshima Carp of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan, so the Dodgers owe them a posting fee, likely the $20 million maximum.

Maeda, 27, was 97-67 with a 2.39 ERA in eight seasons in Japan's top league. His best year was in 2012, but he was pretty stellar last season too, going 15-8 with a 2.09 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 175 strikeouts in 206 1/3 innings.

The word from the scouting community is that Maeda profiles as a mid-level starter in Major League Baseball. He is a 6-foot right-hander.

With this deal, the Dodgers' rotation heading into the year looks like it will include Clayton Kershaw, Scott Kazmir, Maeda, Brett Anderson and Hyun-jin Ryu, with Alex Wood available as a backup option in case Ryu isn't back from injury. Brandon McCarthy will open the year on the disabled list as he recovers from Tommy John surgery and top prospect Julio Urias isn't far away from hitting the bigs, either.
