I think he was in the veteran combine last spring and got some offers...didn't like any of them and was going to stay in shape and try to make a team next year before deciding to hang 'em up. Sounds like he knew he was going to for a while now though.

Riley will be measured on the field.. Just like every other coach.
Those who hype and pimp recruits bring the criticism upon themselves when they commit elsewhere. You can be sure that (5-7) filled with mistakes played a key role in the decisions made.

They'll suck until they quit sucking. When the coaches quit sucking, the team will quit sucking. That could be Saturday, at some point next season, or never under this staff.

One thing is for sure, and that Nebraska could have just slightly stunk instead of stinking badly this season if Riley had made in game decisions that a top tier coach would have made. I understand this was a transition year and all, but one of the top coaches would have had at least a winning season, a 7-5 season worst case scenario. How do I know this? Look around at all of the teams with first year coaches that had terrible 2014 seasons, yet they magically had solid 2015 seasons. Nebraska on the other hand had a good season in 2014, but a HORRIFIC season this year. That's bad coaching, period.

There's no way anyone can realistically have optimism for 2016, but I guess all we can be is hopeful. It sure sucks to be in this position, and we can all thank Shithorst and even Hurlman for this bullshit.

Despite this, I still will say, Go huskers on Saturday, I'm "hopeful" for a win.
