The culmination of all the rule changes over the years has made the NFL more offense friendly (passing friendly to be more specific).
This first week the NFL is going to have 13 QBs who have passer ratings over 100, and there are still 2 QBs left to play. Take 1994, the last time the Niners won a SB... The 2nd rated passer rating for the season would be 14th this week. This first week is probably an anomaly because of the lockout, but it's still a staggering statistic.
Although not perfect, I think this is where the new QBR rating system ESPN came out with will help. It puts an emphasis on winning/execution rather than just simply stats alone.
The league is obviously more of a passing league now, but the conditions were perfect, the lockout and perfect weather being the main two. Lets see how these passing yards compare to weeks 10-17 when weather generally begins to play a factor.
