The NFL is unrecognizable

The culmination of all the rule changes over the years has made the NFL more offense friendly (passing friendly to be more specific).

This first week the NFL is going to have 13 QBs who have passer ratings over 100, and there are still 2 QBs left to play. Take 1994, the last time the Niners won a SB... The 2nd rated passer rating for the season would be 14th this week. This first week is probably an anomaly because of the lockout, but it's still a staggering statistic.

The lack of preparation teams have had may have been an advantage to the offense. But who knows? Maybe it'll be like this all year.

It was terrible but it is going to get called a lot this year even without helmet to helmet contact...The WR is considered a defenseless player virtually all the time.

Haha!... Our offensive would have put up 550 yards/game and our defense would have given 150 of that back on personal fouls.

I know but what are the coaches gunna tell their players. That was a good clean technique tackle. Oh well, I guess.

What would Joe's game be like in today's game...

It shouldn't be easier for QBs to play in the league. I'd hate it. Everyone talks about how it's a QB league, but that's only because balance kept their value up. The difficulty made the truly elite stand out more. I didn't love Montana because he chewed teams up with ease, while putting up the most stats in history. I love him because he was like a masterful surgeon picking teams apart.

I think making it easier for big passing plays to happen, also makes them less exciting. As they become easier to complete, you also start to lose the on the edge of your seat feelings. The rarity adds to it. a bunch of half ass QBs will be overrated too, I feel like I'm already seeing it. Their stats are matching stats in the past because things are gradually being easier.

Making passing easier reduces quality IMO. Going to far in the fast pass pass happy direction, would make the league the equivalent of an action movie that is mostly explosions, with very little substance.

i noticed there seems to be a lot of roster changes this year. add in lack of offseason workouts and that might be the reason the d is looking so bad.
