I'm still sore he blew his penalty against Portugal in 2006...

I sort of agree with him. I say put your best penalty takers first and then the experienced guys who can handle the pressure 4th and 5th. Of course that's probably Salah in both cases for Egypt.

I don't think there's anything worse in a penalty shoot-out than leaving one of your best strikers (scorers) on the bench and then being eliminated without getting a chance to use that player.

/Marc Crawford (Nagano 1998) left Gretzky on the bench in favour of Ray Bourque.
//Realizing hockey is different from a soccer penalty kick, but you get the idea.

It's not that he's wrong, it's that in the same shootout the other team's best player took the last one lol

Like, you gotta preface that with "hey, sometimes it works out". Sometimes they save them for last, they get the opportunity and they still miss like Mbappe did last summer. France sent Wiltord, Abidal and Willy fuckin Sagnol to the spot before Titi but they lost because while those three converted Trezeguet hit the bar (they were also missing their regular penalty taker for, uh, other reasons).

Yeah, I usually want my best guy going early but absolutely jack shit is guaranteed in the shootout.

In other news (and this guy was the toast of Manchester if not the Premier League just a little while ago).

Good for Stephen.

Stephen Eustáquio, Porto - After completing his loan move from Pacos prior to the international break, the 26-year-old Leamington, Ont. got his first run out in a Porto shirt on Sunday at Arouca. Eustáquio came on as a 78th-minute substitute for Fabio Vieira. In his 13 minutes of action, Eustáquio won three tackles had a shot on goal and was carded in stoppage time for a foul. Porto won the match 2-0 on two second-half goals in a four-minute span from Vitinha and Chancel Mbemba. With Benfica, who are in action later on Monday, falling in midweek to Gil Vicente, Porto is now six points clear at the top of the table. Next up for Eustáquio and Porto is a home date with Sporting on Friday before a Europa League fixture next Thursday at home to Lazio.

Saints and ManU sharing the points at Old Trafford wraps up a pretty good week of footy for the south coast lads.

MUNICH — Canadian star fullback Alphonso Davies is on the mend, according to Bayern Munich.

The 21-year-old from Edmonton has been sidelined since early January due to symptoms of myocarditis, a heart condition, following a bout of COVID-19.

"He's happily well on the road to recovery," Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann told reporters in German after his team's 4-2 loss at VfL Bochum on Saturday.

"It's still going to take a while. But the dangerous parts considering his heart are certainly gone. He has another appointment in two weeks. The best-case scenario seemed to have happened in terms of the healing process."
