VAR to the rescue for Liverpool today - I don't think this is a penalty, the Fulham player is just trying to protect himself (about 2:25 in).

Barca-PSG is going to get rid of one underperforming megaclub early. Atleti-Chelsea should be good. Think Atalanta can knock off Real if everything goes right. Rest of the matches just look like scheduled slaughter.

Saw this on instagram but the current leaders in the top 5 UEFA coefficient leagues are:

PL: Tottenham
Bundesliga: Leverkusen
La Liga: Real Sociedad
Serie A: AC Milan
Ligue 1: Lille

All of those teams are in the Europa League.

Wow. My Vianense compadre tears Chelsea apart on the break and scores the winner at the death. Now 5 teams at 20 pts, 2 behind Chelsea at 5th and 2 behind 4th place Southampton.

So the French league looks to be mired in a world of shit. Short version is they signed a TV rights deal that was supposedly the second-most lucrative in Europe behind the EPL but none of the money was guaranteed. Then when they cancelled the rest of Ligue 1 last season they lost out on that revenue from the old rights holder. Now the new rights holder is bailing and combined with the lack of fans and the lost revenue from last season most of the league is nearing insolvency and may not be able to keep paying its staff beyond next month. League leaders Lille are apparently shopping their best players.

This NY Times article gets more into it French Soccer Faces Financial Crisis After Record TV Deal Collapses

I've said here before I really enjoy Ligue 1 and it was heading in a really good direction before Covid. This season was shaping up to a very competitive title race for only the second time since PSG's money showed up. Hope they figure it out.

Imagine if Arsenal winds up relegated.

Granted, quite a longshot. But not as long a shot as Leicester winning was it seems

Theo Walcott scoring against the Gunners has Arsenal fans spewing their venom on-line lol

1-1 and it was a combination of nice Arsenal passing and terrible Saints defending.

Well, considering Southampton playing at Emirates Stadium is like the Flames playing at the Duck Pond, a tie isn't terrible. Still, having a 1-0 lead and being up a man for the last 30+ minutes (including stoppage time) is a bit of a downer.
